My mother has about 5mtrs of very heavy upholstery fabric. It was very expensive and she had bought to upholster her sofa. It is like green-brown/foresty with no animals/trees print ( I do not have pic right now).
She suggested to make 2 dining table covers one for her and one for me since it is heavy, it won't slip. I did not like the idea since it is bit dark for that.
Since it is very very heavy and hard to fold, I want to see the usages before i decide to lug it to my place.
1. Can i make sofa (mattress) pads with it with my regular machines ( and heavy needles). Color would look good on my beige sofa. My sofa is recliner style so i can not have it much hanging and store bought sofa pads will not work.

I love the Scarlet O’Hara image. And I was thinking of a cape too. It sounds like it is something you need to split w her so I guess pillows and a couch drape would work. But remember washing it in a regular washer may prove an issue too

My dear sewing friend, now deceased and a graduate of FIT, left me all sorts of fabrics. One of the things she enjoyed was upholstery and she was in a position to buy whatever she wanted. In my inheritance was 5 yards of v. heavy silk velvet upholstery fabric in a lime green, very "her". SILK VELVET. I had to make this work. I did what do with all my velvet. I put it in my washing machine on hot and then threw it in the dryer. It came out like it lost half its weight. It got so much softer and now had a drape too. It is lovely. My plan is to paint with some cobalt blue dye in some sort of design on the green and make a coat with it. My point for you is to think out of the box. You don't have to make more home dec with it. It shouldn't kill it to put it in the wash and dryer. If you are timid just do it on warm. You may be surprised at the luster and softness it will acquire and how it will then be more suitable for a garment. Try a 12x12 sample first and see what happens.

@nothylane - I do not have to split. Only if i want dining table cover, we can make 2 out of it . For couch pad, she would give me all of it, but then it is too heavy to carry internationally ( yes, coming from 7 seas :-) ).
We do not find that quality in america, or too expensive, so i am also willing but then do not have much ideas. It is stiff fabric so upholstery or heavy curtain seems to be only way.

Do you actually want to do anything with this fabric? If you have no ideas, why not leave it rather than lugging it to your place only to have it taking up space because you don't know what to do with it.

Off the top of your head, you never said “beautiful.” If you had, I would suggest wall covering.

Yeah, I am thinking about leaving it actually. Just looking at options in case.
I never said beautiful because i am not an expert in these kind of fabrics honestly. What is beautful to me actually may be ugliest per latest trends etc. I am in garment sewing and mostly for kids. Not much judgement for drapes/sofa pads

Could it be made into Christmas decor? Mantel runner, tree skirt, throw pillow covers, etc.
