Hi,
When i attach zipper to bodice back ( split bodice) , I leave allowance like 1 or 1/2 inch to fold and attach zipper.
But if i attach lining to bodice first, we do not need allowance ( extra inches in back) right?
I have not sewn a dress with zipper + lining before.
Thanks

In reply to misha79
misha, if you did what you are proposing the zipper would be on top of the lining, not inside the seam between the dress and the lining. I've never seen one done like that, and I think it would look very strange. It also would not wear as well.
You should also check on your pattern to see how much seam allowance is called for at the center back and use the recommended amount, no more and no less. The difference between a 1" seam allowance and a 1/2" seam allowance is a lot.

You do need a seam allowance to attach the zipper, whether or not you are lining the bodice. Do you mean excess fabric beyond the sides of the zipper?
