Does anyone have any suggestions on where to donate fabric? I've been given 8 plasitc tubs of fabric. I haven't started going through it yet so I'm not sure what all I have. Looks like some pieces are quite large, maybe 4 or 5 yards. Thanks in advance!

I would think a local ASG group would like a donation for their charity sewing projects. You might also try a church, an after school program, Girl Scouts, 4-H chapter, etc.

How about a local theater guild?

I worked in a fabric store and we routinely donated to the Girl Scouts, the Humane Society,4H, and several church groups that made quilts, and baby clothes for 3rd world nations.
I personally donate fabric to my local Senior Center, they make quilts and crafts for fund raisers.

Another place is to post it on your local Freeycycle group. My local group always has posts from people and organizations wanting/needing fabric and scraps.

I second the Freecycle posting ... I managed to drop half of my stash and met a new friend as well! Great way to circulate fabric.

Like Miss Frizzle says "Take chances, make mistakes ..." isn't that what fitting is all about? I am happily taking chances and making mistakes as I fit muslin after muslin ...

Freecycle!

I've seen how stuff is handled in goodwill and will not donate there again.

I've donated a lot of my larger pieces of scraps (1/2 yard or more) to the middle school's home ec class. My aunt works at the school and let me know that the teacher is always in need of fabric for the students there. I felt good helping the younger generation learn to sew. :)

Help me out-What exactly is Freecycle and how do I find a local group? There's so much fabric that I could easily donate to several groups.

Freecycle is a hodgepodge of email groups across the world. These groups exist solely for finding, and getting rid of stuff, and keeping items out of landfills. Everything is 100% free. It works like this; say you would like a toaster, you go to your local Freecycle list and post a message like "wanted: toaster"....then anybody who has a toaster they no longer want will contact you by email and offer you one. You pick it up. In your case since you want to offer items, your post would be something like "Offer: 3 plastic tubs of various fabrics"......people will then email you telling you they want the fabric. Then you decide who you want to give it to, you email them back, and they come pick it up from you.

You can go here to learn more about Freecycle and locate a group near you. It's a really great resource. I have given away some things that went to very appreciative people, and I have also received some items from some really nice folks.
