I have the opportunity to buy a used Evolve. Your experience with the Babylock Evolve would be much appreciated!

I don't have the Evolve. I have an Evolution which was the replacement for the Evolve. One thing that I would check is the height of the presser foot. Serging is fine as it is usually fed in flat. When I try to coverstitch something in the round it is often difficult to get the fabric under the presser foot. On my machine there is a way to change the height but it isn't marked so it is difficult to return it to the original position. Otherwise my machine is great. I am not sure what changes, other than the name were made during the switch to the Evolution.

I have an Evolve. I got an Ovation so my Evolve is set on coverstitch and also serves as my back up. I love this machine! I have had no problem serging/coverstitching garments and occasionally a home dec item. It’s been reliable, easy to thread and use. If it’s at a good price (although I don’t know what that would be) I would say go for it!

I have an Evolution that I'm actually trading in on a Triumph this week. I would just recommend Babylock sergers in general, for the ease in setting them up and reliability. Mine's in great shape still, I'm just treating myself 😊

I just traded mine in for a B890
Reasons,
1) vibrated "off the table" no matter WHAT I did! Yes I tried everything recommended.
2) tubes constantly blocked, finally found solution is to take tube from air can and blow them out. Wire didn't work.
Other than that a great machine. DO NOT USE canned air for anything else, use vacuum.
Tubes can also intermittently disconnect, requires a "take in".
Depending on price, I'd go for $499 to $800, no higher.

I have had my Evolve for almost 20 years and it has been an amazing workhorse. I just changed my blade for thr first time 6 months ago and have only had it in the shop for service a couple of times ( I do general maintenance myself). It's been the best serger I've ever owned. I bought a standalone coverstitch machine, not because changing over is difficult; it just is easier to hop back and forth with standalone serger and coverstitch.

My impression is the same as mdeeter's. Fabulous machine and a real work horse.

I bought an Evolve in 2004 and it was a magnificent machine. I used it regularly for 12 years before trading it in for an Ovation. The air threading mechanism, the bellows, so to speak became worn and the machine had trouble pushing the thread through the tubes. Sometimes I had to manually thread it with the wire threader. Toward the end, the tension became very loose and it could not be tightened up. I had it serviced and was told all was well but it became more and more difficult to get it threaded and to get stitches that were sufficient for making tee shirts.
While I will say it was a wonderful machine that served me well, I can't recommend buying a machine that old. My Mom still has hers and it does stitch very well, it has to be manually threaded.
