I made this red simple gathered top for my daughter Fabric is viscose linen blend.
I have pictures of it as is, and with lace. I have this old vintagy scallop lace trim at home and seems it looks good when i placed it on gathered join seam part(with bodice)
What do you guys think? lace or no lace. Btw, top itself is complete and looked good on her as is.
If i decide to attach lace, should i use hand needle and zig zag or zig zag with machine so lace lays flat.

That looks nice. Have you washed the top a few times first? The reason I ask is red linen might be apt to bleed color wise onto that white lace and turn it pink though, later, so I think you should at least test it and stick it in the sink first, with even just water, swish it around a bit, and make sure the sink water does not turn red first. If that does happen, then make that stop happening first. By washing it a few times more maybe. I think it would be a kind of a lot to hand sew on there, so I would probably use a sewing machine. I would probably use a smallish zig zag in width stitch going into the middle of the header on the top of the lace and over that first ridge of it, and into the fabric underneath the bars that are under that. And I would actually stop at each scallop and pivot the fabric. It would be a lot of pivoting though. If you had it zigged zagged on there like that, the bottom edge of it over the gathers would still be loose, but I think that would be fine and O.K. Because of the kind of fabric in the top, you are probably going to have to iron it anyways, out of the laundy, so to iron the lace too, as long as it's cotton and not meltable, would not be an extra big deal probably.

@beauturbo post scared me to use lace.
I did wash it in machine once before sewing and i think it did bleed. I think to stop bleed, we need to put fabric in salt water before stitching up, but now it is is all ready.
Then i have feeling, unless i use 2 rows of stiching, it is going to stay up, not flat :-(
Also sewing lace is scaring me now and work of ironing after wash.
