I have hip dips and the tops of my thighs sort of bulge out right below the dips. These dips are so pronounced I had to prove to DD#2 that it wasn't panty lines (I modeled the same pants for her going commando LOL).

I buy inexpensive Amanda jeans at Costco to wear every day around the house. I noticed that the outer bottoms of the legs flared up and just figured it was due to "cheap jeans".

I'm working on fitting a pair of Eleonore jeans right now and the hems flare up on the sides exactly the same way.

Is the fix to angle the hem line down from the inner leg to the outer leg?

After typing all that out, I found myself thinking "what would kayl do?" Then I knew it was to go to the source of the problem. I need to fit the pants at the hips right?

I can add balance lines and when they are parallel to the floor after fitting, the hems will be also.

Betcha you find you need more circumference somewhere, probably at full hip at the sideseam. Do you remember Kathleen Fasanella's skirt demo with two balls of the same height but different circumference? https://fashion-incubator.com/patterns-must-grow-longer-based-on-girth-pt-2/

You'll see similar kickout at the hem on tee shirts worn by visibly pregnant women, skirts worn by those of us ample of backside or belly.

Stretch fabrics sort of mask fit problems like these, by acting like a girdle and also stretching to provide coverage... but they show up anyhow, often in hems.

No I hadn't seen her skirt demo.

I really need to spend more time over there. She has so much content that is priceless. I did download her facing exercising and actually sewed it up.

I didn't think of it as being so easy as just adding more circumference. You're right - the stretch did mask it and those jeans are stretch too.

Thank you!

If these are "muslins", you might consider adding a gusset in the seam where you need a little more room.

Yes, Kathleen is a treasure. And I think her blogs are among the most intellectually generous I have ever seen.

The first was basted (and still basted).

I finished the second pair convinced all I needed was a bigger size.

What would happen on the first pair if you added a straight strip on the side seams and inseams? Wearable?

That ship has sailed. I already tossed the fabric scraps. I don't mind making another pair. These are good pants!

One of the hardest things for me to do is just toss a flop. I have this urge to fix it or recut it. Was just going through DH's "too big" shirt collection and thinking to myself I could just recut them for me... Sigh.

I know. I'm that way with sweaters that I've knitted.

The side seams were 3/8". I could take out the basting, butt the fabric together and zig zag the edges together. That would add 3/4" of circumference on each side totaling 1.5". Might be enough to at least check that hem lines level out.
