I am planning some spring/summer outfits (sheath dresses and a few lightweight linen jackets). Can anyone recommend a source for cotton batiste lining that doesn't cost more than the shell fabric? I am looking at prices upward of 14 or 15 a yard. Fabric.com sells lightweight broadcloth for 2.98/yard (this is a cotton/poly blend) Would this be a good substitute? I want something that won't wrinkle too badly, and will stabilize the linen on the outside, yet not be too heavy or warm to wear in the hot weather.
thanks in advance,

If you're open to non-cotton fabrics, try silk organza - available from various sources for $4-6/yd, depending on width....also available in some colors, or dye it yourself. Both Thai Silks and Dharma Trading sell it by the yard or bolt....

I keep lightweight cotton broadcloth on hand to use for interfacing and underlining. I don't think it is stable enough on its own to be a good lining fabric and would just get in the way.... and a cotton/poly blend might not be too comfortable once it starts to pill.
Keep looking - the right answer is out there someplace.

2012 : starting stash 386, net additions 206, used 164, ending stash 428...I'm never going to get in front of this pile of fabric!

Thanks, I think I will try the silk organza. The idea of a pilling lining, well, that's too gross to contemplate.

Bemburg rayon is my favorite. It is somewhat slippery to sew but it is lightweight and breathes. I usually pre-wash and dry it and will often starch it to make it more stable while I'm working on it.

If you want to try a batiste as well, Farmhouse Fabrics has a variety. I've used their poly/cotton (about $5/yd) and haven't noticed any pilling, but I didn't use it as a lining. She also has victorian batiste for about $7/yard (Victorian Batiste here), that might work. I've always had very good luck with her fabrics and the customer service is good. NAYY

I have successfully used poly/cotton broadcloth for pocket lining and have had no problem with pilling. I have a RTW skirt made with a poly cotton lining with no pilling either.
If memory serves correctly I believe it is the polyester that causes pilling because the fiber is attracted to each other at the molecular level.
