I’m in the market for a coverstitch machine and have had my eye on a BCLS-2 machine.
By chance, I suddenly have the opportunity to get a BCLS for $500. The plastic has yellowed, though the original owner says it’s only been used once. I’d be testing it before I purchase.
Since I can’t find much pricing info out there, is $500 for a BCLS a good price??

I can't remember what I paid for mine, New. I think around $800. There are certain sections of mine that have yellowed while other areas have not, or not as much. Different plastic? I've sewn a million miles on mine with no problems and regular self maintenance. I've never had a minute's problem with it. It's a more simple machine than a serger therefore less mechanical and user error potential. It does take some play time trying out it's abilities to get comfortable with it but there are great you tube instructors that can help with that.
I can't help with the current market rate but I wouldn't sell mine for $500. The new models don't have enough value added features to command their current retail price IMHO. I also prefer a stand alone machine vs. Combo unit. Easier to roll my chair than change machine purpose I think. HTH

It’s great that you can test it before buying it. I always think that’s super important. Be sure to test all of the stitches it can do in each position.
I think $500 is a terrific price, as most sellers price it about $300-$600 more than that. The yellowing doesn’t mean anything about the mechanics or reliability of the machine. It only means that it’s one of Babylock’s early versions and the body has been exposed to light. Babylock has changed the plastic they use for all of their sergers and coverstitch machines since then in order to minimize that yellowing. My BLCS is about 13 years old, built when Babylock used the older plastic. It still stitches as well as it ever did. I’ve not had a day’s problem with it.

I ditto the comments above. I've had mine about 12 years with very little trouble at all. My plastic has stayed white but it's always been away from a window. The $500 price indicates that the BLCS holds its value. Mine is the #1 version and I don't know that I'd sell it for any amount. I'd give this machine a good test run and then buy it if you don't find any problems. Consider the yellowed plastic as an indication of your experience as a sewer!!!!!

Excellent price! Try, buy and enjoy. I paid 900 Cdn for my used BLCS 3 years ago.

It will probably need servicing because it hasn't been used. Its a good price especially if it has extra feet.
I have one and it works great.

It's a great price. I bought mine used and it works great. It is yellowed in some areas, exposure to sunlight. I did take it for servicing before I used it.

Thank you all! There were a couple of cosmetic issues but the machine stitched great. Final price was $480! With the $ I saved I’ll get it serviced.
Really, really lucky find.

You will love it! I licked into my used BLCS-1 two year ago for $350 and it is a game changer! If it doesn't ahve it already, buy the clear foot. BLCS-CLF (make sure it is for this model) it makes stitching in the round so easy to line up then end with the start stitches.
