I have tried every adjustment in the manual and my eyelet stitch will not make a complete circle. I want to use it instead of a grommet for a drawstring in a hoodie. Any ideas?

What model Janome are you using?

Does your machi e have a fine tune screw if so check your manual altering the position will help balance your buttonholes.

That's annoying and I know because my Brother machine does that too. Mine has a choice of three sizes and they all end one or two stitches before the circle is complete. Even with the recommended foot only ONE of the six I made was complete. My suggestions are either to finish it out with hand stitches or make a small buttonhole instead.

If I just wanted to get it done real quick and finish up my project, I guess I would use a buttonhole instead. Or you could use a metal eyelet. Or if it just did not finish it up all the way, but the part that was there looked pretty good for what was there, you could leave long thread tails, and thread up one of those with a hand needle, and complete it by hand even ?
You might have to do two of them that way though?

Are you using interfacing? That is usually needed for buttonholes. A small buttonhole might be a better option.

I made hand-sewn eyelets on a Jalie Frédéric Hoodie. I have a details on how I did it in my review along with a link to a Threads magazine article on hand-sewn eyelets. I think it worked well as an additional design element so I ended up glad I wasn't able to use my machine eyelet.

How annoying. For a quick fix, I'd probably fill in with a short bar stitch or zig-zag, just to close the loop. With a drawstring pulling through, no one will notice.

I use a flower foot to make an eyelet with my mechanical janome. They have to be in place before the garment is completed though. I hope you find an answer to making your automatic one work, but if you don't this is a really good option.

Is there an option to switch the machine to manual mode zig zag and just sew those last few stitches?

Have you tried stitching the eyelet twice, the second time starting where the first one stopped?
