Good morning all,
I am planning to make a little lined jacket for my soon to be granddaughter. It will be a fall jacket. And I have some beautiful vintage wide wale corduroy that I want to use. I found the PERFECT printed lining fabric. It had been available in woven. But now I could only order it from Sweden in 3 yd increments. NOPE, not gonna go there. Anyway the same print, by the same manufacturer, is available in cotton spandex. I’m thinking of using a sheer or light weight fusible interfacing on the knit to make it act like a woven fabric? Do you think that will work? Thanks in advance

You might be able to force it to work, sort of, but at the cost of continuing issues. Might not be a huge issue on baby clothes, more of a problem for older, more mobile bodies.
How about custom printing from a place like Spoonflower? Embroidery? Hand printing? Readjusting the meaning of "perfect lining"?

I wouldn't do it. I've lined knits with wovens, but I just can't see lining a woven with a knit. I am visualizing putting an arm into the jacket and having the lining stretch where the shell doesn't. I just don't like that picture.
You stated: "my soon to be granddaughter"? Little one on the way or grandchild getting married? If it was for a little one, I would be looking for a flannel. If for an older new granddaughter, maybe a contrasting color, more traditional lining (poly satin?).
Anyway. I am sure however you do it, it will be loved. Happy Sewing.

Thanks for responding. What continuing issues could you see happening? Sadly I haven’t had luck with spoonflower. And the print I want to use is something I have had my eye on. I thought they had stopped printing it. But it’s back in a USA shop and I want to use the cotton spandex for a little matching dress or top anyway. What I was concerned about was it being to droopy. That’s why I thought some lightweight interfacing could give it enough body. I wish I could get the woven of this print. But I just can’t justify getting 3 yds. And on top of that I would have to have it shipped from Sweden :/

Drooping out of the body of the jacket, friction with garments underneath, deterioration of the elastane fibers with heat, delamination from interfacing would be my biggest worries.

Thanks. It’s a little one. Oh well I guess this little jacket will only be in my dreams. :(

The one thing I *might* consider would be quilting a knit, fairly closely, to a stable woven.

That is a brilliant suggestion.

Wow! What a great idea. It would become almost like a barn jacket. I will give it some thought. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
