I finished a shirt today, and would appreciate opinions. I had originally planned different buttons and to use blue thread that matches the fabric background. But decided to do edgestitching in white instead.

There are 2 choices of buttons, I think the white vs the clearer white will look better?
And thinking of using the fabric match blue thread for the button holes and to attach the buttons, even though I used white every where else.

Any opinion? Posting a photo below.

I personally like the white buttons sewn on with blue thread. Very nice looking shirt.

I agree, I very much like the white buttons with the blue thread.
The clear buttons just don't seem to look "right".

I love your fabric choice! I also think the white buttons look better. I could see a case for both colors of thread -- personally, I'd do white thread if I wanted it to match the topstitching, but I'd do blue for a more fun detail.

White with blue. Great post, by the way. Photos are useful sewing tools and always helps to see new ways of using them. (As in analyzing button choice.)

Looks like you already decided, but do you want another opinion? Maybe not?

I personally like the clearer white buttons, because I think they are a little softer. Whenever you make a design decision like this, you have to think about the overall effect. In this case, I think a row of white buttons will draw the eye to the centre of the shirt, where the row of solid white buttons will stand out. The clearer buttons will have less of that effect.

There is no right answer, really, it just depends on what you like. The fabric is really pretty. Do you want to emphasize it’s polka-dottedness with a clearly visible row of white buttons? If so, use the solid white buttons. Or do you want to keep the eye on the fabric itself? Then, use the clear buttons.

Either way, great shirt!

Thank you for your comments. I did mock ups with fabric scraps to see the differences. Interesting, that actually sewn, the clearer buttons sewn with white thread and white buttonholes won over the other possibilities.
