I’m 65 now and haven’t had a makeover since I did a Clinique one back when I was in my early 40’s. I’ve got a black tie wedding to go to in October so I made an appointment at Sephora to have a full face makeover. Has anyone gone to Sephora and done this?

I haven't gone to Sephora but I have gone to "MAC" a few times for a make-over. I am in my 70's now and I just went a few years ago. I was very satisfied with my appt. I did go at a non-busy time. At the Dillard's store I chose opening time on a Thursday morning for one appt. and a similar time frame for the other.

I had never had make-overs before and was a little scared. I am a lipstick only type of woman so this was a new type of experience. The professional will remove all make-up from your face so it is better if you arrive wearing little or no-make-up.
Your professional will probably ask you questions about your life-style, skin-routine, etc. Depending on your answers your face will be made up with a variety of products. You may choose to buy some, all or none of the products. The ones that were used on you were samples. If you purchase you will get unopened cases and boxes. Sephora's prices are definitely not inexpensive and similar to Macs. I have found that high quality make-up is worth it for me, though.

I recently read in "The New York Times" that women are turning away from using foundation in order to achieve a more transparent facial look. If you use primer, blush and concealer you can get away without foundation usually but it is a personal
choice, of course.

I hope what I wrote is helpful.

Sewing and reading about sewing are daily pleasures.
I hope to use up lots of stash in 2023. I am also starting to give away fabric, tools, etc that I am not going to use in an attempt to downsize.

Ditto only buy high quality. I love love my YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint foundation with sunscreen, hehe after catraract surgery I was horrified to see all the freckles/dark spots and it covers beautifully. On my 3rd "jar" and since no longer available at Sephora I scrounge ebay, next jar coming from Australia, still approx same price about $70 but lasts up to a year.
My lips are pale and dry hohum ALWAYS put something on at least lip gloss , love Lancome Juicy Tubes or Youngblood lip glass, stays on much better. But for day wear/work I start with pencil, Prestige lipliner then lipstick, usually Lancome then lip gloss
Some blush if hoho tired looking
Eyes same ol same ol for years....now here is what Ive found. I HAVE had makeovers and just did not like how they did my eyes. I like LIGHT, pale pinks/blues/mauves on lids and over the years always the same mauvey purple on crease. Thye were doing awful dark stuff, made eyes look smaller.
Mascara I love Monsieur Big by Lancome waterproof if swim day, or regular. Or if low maintenace day a quick sweep of Lancome Idole, it really separates the lashes
I have a gazillion colours lid liners but only line lower. Maybe a teensy bit of upper outer. Best are soft pencils , Many get dry and hard and are useless, I like Maybeline Lasting Drama, NYX, Sorme which I use also for eyebrow pencil
But of course skin care very important too. Hehe I have quite the coillection for that depending on needs. And of course sunscreen

Amazement was my bliss.......

I didn’t consider it a “makeover,” but I’ve had my makeup done at Sephora in a few different cities for special occasions. It was free with a fairly nominal purchase and there are many brands to chose from at various price points, so you can buy an expensive foundation and a less expensive lip pencil, for example. I have pretty much quit wearing makeup with Covid or having my makeup placed because it makes me nervous to have someone get close to my face.

I have had makeup applied at Sephora when looking to buy something. And also at Nordstroms when they have their semi-annual sales. In both of those cases, the person doing the makeover was trying to sell me stuff so they used a number of products that were expensive. I recall a makeover from the Dior counter and the makeup artists finished by telling me that I could have all of the products used for something like $1,100.00 I bought some lipstick (BTW Dior and Chanel make excellent lipstick)

I also paid for a makeover and makeup lesson at my local Aveda salon and the makeup artist did an excellent job. She asked me how much time I wanted to spend, how much makeup I like wearing, etc. and I learned a lot. So I would suggest that you are honest with the person about how much product you want to wear/use, plus if you want to touch up during the event. And ask if you can take pictures while they do things like eyes or contouring.

You don’t need expensive products to do the job! I use a combination of drugstore and Sephora/department store stuff.

I wear makeup pretty much just on the weekends when we go out. I watch all these makeup artists like Risa trying to do my eyes. She makes it look so easy but I can’t get my eyeshadow to look professional. I’m hoping Sephora will show me some tricks especially for someone like me that wears glasses.

The last time I had a "make over" was pre pandemic-February 2019.I decided to go to a local Sephora and she did a really great job! Now, I mostly do a nude toned eye, but with an eyebrow pencil to fill in the greyish hairs now. Softer mauve and pink/rose color lipsticks than what I used to wear. Now I wear Cover Girl Mascara which works perfectly for me.

Congratulations on wanting to update your look. I agree with a previous post that skin care is important. Fresh, clean skin will let your face makeup go on smoother. One of my favorite things is to go to an esthetician for a facial. They can use products that you cannot buy over the counter. My face always looks younger after a facial.

My girlfriend had a makeover at Sephora. She enjoyed it and was able to resist the hard sell on products. She may have made a token purchase. I was shocked to see her directly after the appointment, she was certainly more made up than usual. Jarring, actually.

A coworker is also a trained makeup artist, and she did a class for some of us before the Christmas party. I've seen pictures of her brides and they all look amazing, but not over made up. You see the face and the glow, but not the paint. As a treat, consider having a makeup artist do your makeup before the wedding. They are all anxious to get back to work after the pandemic. I learned so much from Sandi during the class as I'd been doing a lot of makeup application incorrectly and she did introduce me to many new products. She did not sell anything personally. Products were her tried and true, and ranged from lower end drugstore brands to more expensive.

My partner detests heavy makeup. Interestingly, when I got home from the class he did not even notice or comment on what I wore on my face, so I knew it looked natural.

Sephora put fake lashes on me and tight lined my water line. The next day my one eye hemorrhaged.
