Rules of how much you can lengthen each area (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I am inverted triangle with length in my torso. Question are there rules for the maximum amount I can alter/lengthen a area. In my bodice I have a extra two inches. Should I break up the length.

I think it would be best to also measure, on your body. High Shoulder Point (where your neck meets your shoulder line) to Bust Point, in addition to HSP to Waist. This will help you determine if you need to split those 2 inches or not.
For example, Burda tells you to alter in two places in the bodice : Btw shoulder and bust point and btw bust point and waist. Sleeves are also altered in two places (arm and forearm). Pants in 3 places (hip, thigh and calf).
But the Big 4 typically only have 1 alteration double-line, btw bust point and waist, in the bodice.

Generally 2 inches is the maximum you'd want to lengthen in any one place. It depends on the garment, however - what pattern are you working on? Is it straight-cut through the torso, or is it fitted or flared out?

IMHO, break up 2" on a "fitted" dress,
nor more than 1" find out if you need to move bust point, then 1" above and below...if you need to add in/above arm scythe, then re-shape the scythe, and sleeve as well.
Do a muslin of the top.
length in same place in back, and walk all pieces.
Good luck

Thanks all for responding the pattern is a free one by Mood called the Marilla top. I agree two inches in one place is a lot. Also I'll have to guess a bit on apex is not marked. My plan is to do a mockup of just the bodice portion and go from there. I heard not to adjust more than a inch in one area.
I measure bust 35 waist 29.5 hip 38.5

Yes that's the plan. I don't have any experience moving the arm scythe. Hopefully I can find a good tutorial on it.
Also I was looking for anyone that has made this pattern and posted a picture. New to forum still hacking my way around

Whoa, that is not a beginner pattern, IMHO.
If you want to go ahead anyway, there are darts on the top, darts should end 1-2" away from the bust point, so that may give you an idea.
Just lengthening the straps is very deceptive, the bust point will change doing that, now if you need to drop the bust point, that may be one way to do it.
Good luck

I am very tall and carry 4” of extra lenght between my shoulder and bust, more specifically between my under arm and bust! I add all 4” between the bottom of the armhole and the bust. Otherwise the extra length is in the wrong place.
My question is, where on your torso do you need the extra length? The rule is “what dose my body need?”.

Oh yeah not my first time at rodeo. Just haven't done much with fitting bodice.
I've gotten away with a lot not realizing how to do it right. Thanks for your help.
