FIT FOR REAL PEOPLE NOW ON DVD
The Palmer/Pletsch book Fit For Real People has sold over 60,000 copies and is in its second revised edition. Marta Alto stars in a new interactive DVD bringing the Palmer/Pletsch fit methods to life. Fit for Real People–Basics is a one and one-half hour long presentation of fit basics from buying the right size pattern through tissue- and fabric-fitting.
Marta fits a mature figure needing most of the common alterations. In a fitted shirt, Marta shows how to increase the bust area and create deeper darts; how to do a broad back and full upper arm alterations; and create a sway back tuck in a one-piece back.
In a loose jacket, she then shows the full bust alteration where there is no dart and you must add one. She also shows how dart position may not be correct in fabric, depending on its weight and drape.
In a fitted princess jacket, she shows the princess full bust alteration, broad and sway back alterations in a 2-piece back, and the type of "tweaking" that is always needed in fabric. She fits the model in a fitted straight skirt in tissue and fabric as well, creating a beautiful suit.
The model did not have any round back alterations, so Marta showed them on herself. High round back alterations are very common on today's figures—possibly due to desk work.
Look for more fit DVDs in the future. Other current DVD's from Palmer/Pletsch include Pants for Real People—Fitting; Pants for Real People___Sewing; Serger Basics; Creative Serging; and 21st Century Sewing. All DVD's retail for $19.95 and are available in stores or at www.palmerpletsch.com.

Thanks Debbie! I appreciate the info! Between trying to fit myself, sewing for my daughter and trying to help my DIL fit herself and learn to sew, I need all the help I can get! Surely between the book and this DVD I'll eventually figure it out?!

I can see I will be buying more DVD's in my future. I would like the one on pants fitting and the other one on pant sewing. I love watching others fit people, because when I do it myself, I can't see what is going on behind me, but I can see what a good fit in the seat looks like on someone else.

Currently working on a boys quilt. Sized 40 x 40 inches. It has chickens, chicken eggs, cows, fish, sea life, afield with water, Dachshunds, mini sailboats, and many colorful other fabrics. The blocks are a 4 x 4 finished size, so many of them are needed.
This my 4th quilt in 7 months.

I've ordered the new DVD and jacket book. I'm halfway thinking about ordering the revised FFRP book too because a note from Pati Palmer (in response to my query) mentioned that the latest revision actually has some new techniques. Subtle changes, I think, but I'm not exactly sure. I'm going to wait until watching the DVD to see if anything is mentioned with more detail in that. But I figure I can always sell my "older" copy of FFRP if I do buy the newest edition.

My JFRP (Jackets for Real People -- a new acronym for us!) book and FFRP DVD arrived today. I should have some time to look them over as my machine needs to go in for servicing and I'll be itching for something sew-y to do.

I got mine yesterday and am about half way through it. It's a bit tedious for me to sit through the whole thing at once but it is very well done. It's a great visual reference for people who learn more easily that way. I'm just getting a little bored with watching taping of tissue. (you'll see)
