So I'm making Simplicity 2058, and it looks great. PR folks gave me advice on the pockets as well as adjusting for various asymmetry, and everything worked. Thanks!

I added an invisible seam to the left side, since I had made the skirt once before and didn't like the lapped zipper. But the invisible zipper is less-than-invisible and looks a little funny because of the bulk added by the pocket, etc.

Is there any reason I can't put the invisible zipper in one of the back seams instead? It would mean cutting a new facing, but that wouldn't be too hard (famous last words). The only thing I can think of is that it would be harder for me to reach.

Thank you as I plan to wear this tomorrow.

yes I should have been working on it earlier

You can put an invisible zip in any seam that is long enough and you can reach it. Side or back will both work and as you wrote just adapt the facing.

Thank you so much! I hate it when I think I have a genius idea, get half way through, and then realize I did something really dumb.

I just put the invisible zip in on the back seam. That has the additional advantage of allowing me to easily make more fine adjustments on each side of the hip and waist, which is where I need them.

Center back is ideal (don't want to do in a extremely angled seam.
When doing a invisible zipper interface the back side 1-2 inches beyond the end, sew as close as possible to zipper (after pressed). If not using an invisible foot, move needle as close to zipper without sewing on it. Sew the zipper open and to the pull (don't zip up until done, will throw off the zipper placement) then match the top on the other size, sew to the pull....now you can close the zipper. now sew as close to the zipper pull as possible (? one stitch away) for the seam below the zipper. tack the zipper ends to the seam allowance below the zipper.

I much prefer a centre back zip as it's easier to fit a skirt or trousers. I also increase the back seam allowance to 1" as well using a very lightweight interfacing around the zip opening.

The skirt is FINISHED! And it looks pretty good, with a possible exception of the very top of the zipper. Next time I'm going to use a lighter weight facing. Nobody is going to see it anyway.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions and tips, I learn a lot here.
