I was shopping at Target today and found some cute playhouses. I was only allowed to buy one, so I had to choose the pvc frame playhouse for sturdiness. I also wanted to get my daughter a squarish shaped pop up playhouse that had mostly mesh sides. I looked @ Birch St patterns and they only have a pattern for a circular shaped one. Does anyone know of a pattern for a square shaped one, like you would find at Target or Toys r Us? Or where to get pop up wires to make something of your own design?

Sew Baby has a collapsable circular tent. There's also a playhouse pattern, but it is made with PVC pipes as the frame.

I have a boring collapsable playhouse that my mom got my kids for really cheap at a consignment store. I've thought about ripping it apart for parts and a pattern and making one that's more interesting, but I haven't done it. The thing that deters me is that those collapsable houses really need to be made from nylon to collapse well, but I really love the prints available from home dec and quilting fabrics.

Not much help here, but when my kids were little there were a couple of patterns available to make playhouses that you would put over a card table. Could you use the card table for the base???

I had a card table play house when I was a kid and I loved it! My grandma made windows with curtains and everything.

Amazing what you can find on the internet!! About half-way down this page is a pattern that fits over a card table. When they are through playing, everything folds away which is nice.

Last year, Sew News Sew Up the Holidays Magazine had a really cute card table playhouse. It had a side for each season, an entry door and lots of windows. It was so cute, I was wishing my daughter was younger just so I could make one!

Shirley Adams has a cute card table playhouse. I saw her show where she detailed how to make it about a million years ago. She now has it in pattern form: Card Table Playhouse (house in a box)

You could probably make a tent to go over the playhouse as it is now, if the wires can support some extra weight.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We'll stick with our pvc playhouse for now, and when she gets bigger I will consider something else. My only card-type table is my sewing table and I don't want her playing under that!!!! I am amazed at the construction of the one I bought. It is cute but the front door is sewn on way crooked and I'm not sure how long the stitching will last on the entire thing.
