Where might I find 100% cotton sweater knits with as few of chemicals added as possible?
(maybe even organic)

on-line  - I am too chemically sensitive to go into a store.

emmaonesock.com has recently had in some sweater knits or various content, but I think there aren't many left and most were blends. You may want to check out nearseanaturals.com, which specialize in organic fabrics, and have a nice selection of knits, including some heavier knits like french terry; don't think they have sweater knits, tho.

Sorry, I couldn't find any organic sweater knits.  But I did find some nice organic cotton knit jersey, ribs, and interlocks at

Still no sweater knits, but I did find more organic cotton knits, if you're interested, at:

Cotton Plus

Note:  the knit page isn't coming up with this link, but the search page is.  Just type in "knits" and hit the search button.

I haven't joined this co-op, so I don't know the fabrics offered, but you might want to check out the organic cotton co-op.

I don't think these stores have sweater knits, but here are some other organic / low processing fabric sources; perhaps you can contact them about the sweater knit fabric:
Moonbath Shop
Wild Rose Farm
Near Sea Naturals (they have cotton/hemp fleeces; same store Nikki mentioned)
Hemptraders

(I have way too many fabric websites bookmarked!  :p  )  Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Re: Somewhat Stretchy "Fur" (posted on 7/21/06 11:26 AM ET)
This may seem crazed, but I'm looking for a faux fur with some stretch for a costume. I want the fur to be fairly close-fitting, so it would be better if it had stretch and also a less-brutal backing if possible. (Otherwise there will be a spandex undersuit, I suppose.)

Thanks,

I would like to add sleeves to a pattern that is designed to be sleeveless. Any suggestions as how to make this work. I have also wondered if it is possible to add sleeves to a dress pattern cut on the bias. Thanks for any help!

Maijamos,

I recommend you move these questions to the message board for Pattern Modifications, Design Changes, and then members will notice your question, and provide answers.

I don't think your questions will be noticed at the end of this Fabrics - Sweater Knits topic.

Can you figure out how to do this? I'm not very good at it myself, but I think you go click on Message Board, then to the Pattern Modification, Design Changes section, and then you'll see a box that says something like "Start a New Topic."

Good luck, Kate
