Re: silk dupioni (posted on 8/27/06 9:43 PM ET)
Would silk dupioni be suitable for the LH Bolero jacket? I am wondering if it would not be drapey enough. Would washing it make it more drapey?

Washing it will make it softer but it will never be drapey. I've not made any of LH's jackets, but most of her stuff does seem to depend on using fabrics with lots of soft drape and a weave with some give. Dupioni does not have give, and it's drape is more...I don't really know how to describe it except to call it "angular" and "puffy" no matter how much softer you render it by washing. The weave is too tight and dense. It works best in highly constructed and perfectly fitted garments.

I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.
