We'll be in the US at the end of the week and DD needs one. (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

We are going to be taking our girls down to Spokane for some back to school shopping this week and one of my DD's needs a swim suit. I know that this isn't the best time of the year because most places have cleared them out, but I thought someone might have a suggestion of a good store to check. We will check Mervyns, Penney's and Sears for sure, but don't know where else to check. Any ideas?... TIA, Jeanette

Sporting goods stores (Big 5 is the local one) carry swimsuits all year round. However, they are swimsuits for swimming, and the size range is limited.

Bonny lass, bonny lass, will you be mine?
You shall neither wash dishes nor serve the wine;
But sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam,
And feast upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.

I don't know the Spokane market, but type of store you should look in depends on what type of swimsuit your dd wants' - as mentioned before, if you are looking for a suit for swimming laps, etc, the sporting goods stores will carry year round (brands like Tyr and Speedo). "Varsity Shops" will carry a larger selection of sizes since they tend to outfit all the school swim teams.
Alternatively, if she wants a fashion ss, in our area, some of the dept stores start carrying "resort wear" this time of year (Nordstrom's would be an example).
Good luck!

There are a few chains of swimsuit stores. Just Add Water is one. I've lived in the South my whole life; I don't know if they're common in places where it gets cold. You could always check the directories for any malls in the area online before you go, though.

Hi Jeanette,
I'm in San Diego, so there are suits here, all year round.
But as far as seasonal places are concerned, do you have anything like a Ross, TjMaxx or Marshall's? They are always behind the season, so they will be getting the summer clearance stuff soon.
Also, gift shops in Hotels with pools or saunas. Vacationers often forget their swimsuits. I'm sure a bellhop at such a place gets questions year-round. They may know.
Sport Chalet (if you have one), Big 5 was mentioned, but they don't tend to carry a wide range (as was mentioned).

I don't know if your daughter would like the styles, but I have bought suits from LandsEnd in the fall via their catalog and web site.

Ditto the Lands End suggestion. Great range of sizes - not-so-great styles but always available.

Jeanette,
I definitely second Twistedangel's store recommendations.
I checked on www.switchboard.com (online phone directory) and it seems that Spokane has a t.j.maxx and a ross dress for less.
These are discounted fashion stores that carry many well known brand names, should still have lots of swimsuits (our local ones do) and the styles will be very much to your DDs' taste, as they cater to the junior and young crowd. Prices cannot be beat, especially on sale.
It seems that there's no Marshall's in Spokane, but possible that they're just not listed in the phone book, so ask your hostess (or hotel employees) when you arrive.
In fact, I'd recommend you go to these stores before Penney's and Sear's, as I'm certain your DDs will find lots of clothes they love. And very cheap.
Kate
Edited to Add: It appears that WA's state and local combined sales tax is 8.6%, which does apply to clothing.
