I'm looking at Manhattan Fabrics and they have fully sponged and double sponged wool. Does anyone know what that means?

Paraphrasing my copy of "All About Wool" . . .
Sponging is a process of forcing steam thru the woolen or worsted fabric to remove any residual shrinkage caused by the tension applied to the fabric during the weaving process. So it's preshrunk. This is not the same as shrink proof - - for example you can still felt the fabric in the dryer.

Thanks. So, if I'm going to make a hand washable garment out of it, I should probably still hand wash it first.
I'll have to see if I can find a copy of all about wool.

All About Wool
I recommend buying this book new from the publisher. That way, you can be assured that you will get the swatches.
I have All About Silk and All About Cotton. I'm allergic to wool, so I don't use it much. They are excellent books.

Bonny lass, bonny lass, will you be mine?
You shall neither wash dishes nor serve the wine;
But sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam,
And feast upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.

Oh...Neefer...
I REALLY didn't need to know about those books.
(sigh.)

I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.

Thanks. I see that I need more books. And the wool book's website has a lovely list of fabric stores. Clears throat.
