Hello All,
So im trying to hem a pair of my jeans. They are way too long for me and i know how to do a normal hem, however, these jeans have a distressed and unique bottom to them and i want to save and attach it somehow while hemming so it loooks the same. Anyone know a good way to do this? I did this with another pair of jeans for a test (they were old so it didint matter if i messed up) and basically what i did was before the bottom unhemmed cuff i cut it off and cut the jeans to the lenth i wanted, then stitched them together. they looked ok except the cuff keeps flipping up, so what i did was zig zag in clear thread on the hem line and flattened it a little- it looks ok but these are an expensive pair of jeans and dont want to do that to them. my tailor does these and u cant even tell they were shortened but charges 40 bucks each:( any ideas? thanks so much!

Could you repeat that same process on this nicer pair of jeans except instead of zig zagging with clear thread...tack it down with thread where the cuff wants to roll up??

Ok.
1. Maybe I'm not the person to assist you in this endeavor.
2. Maybe I'm not picturing this correctly.

You just have a pair of jeans, right? Normal jeans and they are too long, right?

So you take the hem out that's in it right now...cut them down and rehem them.
Won't that work? You said something about the design in these jeans.

Can you post a pic? They always help me. Guess I'm a visual type person. (hoping someone else jumps in here with just the perfect words for you....sorry)

Try checking out a previous thread. There are links in here with specific instructions for hemming jeans but keeping the original hem. Hemming jeans

If you look on page 2 of Mirza's link, Hemming jeans , click on the link from KP_in_SF -- 'Repost of the Tutorial' on figandplum.com. I've used this several times--The technique works beautifully and the color illustrations are excellent.

(I'm sorry for the clumsy reference, but I don't know how to get the Word file referenced here.)

Here's a link that demonstrates hemming a jean without losing the distressed edge.
