Does anyone know what this is anymore? I have been having trouble lately getting my local walmarts to pricematch a couple even have "we will not price match on patterns" stuck on the pattern drawers.... has it become company policy or is it individual stores ?

Help!

There was a thread about this not to long ago. Apparently, it's on a store by store basis.

I find it odd though that they don't like to price match for patterns considering how they like to be the lowest cost store around. Maybe that only applies to things not made in the USA. Who knows. Maybe i'm just being snarky.

Have you talked to the managers? I have had trouble getting them to do it till the cashier got manager to approve it. It's a pain in the rear, but they say they price match, on specified items, and I call the manager and usually get my way :D

Good luck!

I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. If I can get it somewhere else, I do. If not, I probably don't need it.

Judging from the size of their profits, I am in the minority on this line of thinking, but you'd be surprised how much money all those low prices are really costing you.

Because of their payroll and benefit policies, a very significant percentage of their employees have to rely on government subsidies to survive. So, the way I look at it, my taxes are helping pay a living wage to Wal-Mart employees and thereby relieving Wal-Mart of the obligation. Bottom line: tax dollars are indirectly subsidizing the profit margin for Wal-Mart.

Too bad Costco doesn't have a fabric department.

OK- sorry wandered off topic here.

I agree -- but you'd probably have to buy the whole bolt!

I generally try to get the patterns on sale at either Joanns or hancocks, but a couple of times the ones I've wanted have been gone so I've pricematched at Walmart. I ahven't had any trouble at all doing it, although I don't do it often. I just show the cashier the Joanns flyer, they look at it to verify info and then override the cashregister. No biggie. But, I can see if it was a routine rather than the exception, that some cashiers might get a bug up their backside about it, KWIM?

And how many of us do that already? I sure wouldn't mind!

The Walmart closest to me in Connecticut will only price match one pattern per sale for me, but I have to go to the courtesy desk and let them keep the flyer.

That would be wonderful if Costco carried fabric. I was in there yesterday and they had about 7 or 8 pianos on display for sale. That was surprising!

I go to Wallmart only to get certain items. Cording for welting on anything-1/2 J's price. Interfacing---including some of the good stuff you use for purses. I think I paid $1.49 and J's is $3.99. If I need pins, quilting safety pins ( I don't quilt but we use those to pin socks for the laundry because the really hold together! I have a college degree and really feel matching socks is beneath me!!

I also buy some of the license fabric for pillow cases for all the kids and I use a border and embroider their names. I can't be spending tons of money on fabric for neighborhood kids.

I also hit their $1 yd fashion find table sometimes for such items as capes for kids, curtains for my chicken's nests, ( you know girls like to squeeze in private), and to make our sheets and blankets longer under the mattress. I just wrote a tip on that.

Other than that, I agree that it is well worth it to go to a reputable fabric store to purchase great fashion fabric when I am doing serious projects.

I heard that Wallmart was going to get rid of their fabric departments because of the labor issues.
