Hello everyone!
I bought a simple pattern for ladies/mens pj bottoms. It lists flannel/cotton type materials but I want to make one pair with a fleece type material without having to buy another pattern. What do I need to do to change the one I have to make it work with fleece?
The pattern is Simplicity #4429 It's sew easy.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be OK. I wouldn't use fleece for the tie however. Use some sort of ribbon or narrow twill tape.

Patsy - also keep in mind that your fabric is probably thicker than the suggested fabrics, so the fit will be a bit snugger than if you made it with flannel. Most likely for PJs it won't matter. You could sew a slightly narrower seam allowance (say, 1/2" instead of 5/8") if you have made this in a flannel & think it will be too snug in the thicker material.
The PJs probably have so much ease that you won't need to change a thing.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

It's interesting that you point that out Anne. The thickness issue occurred to me too. But I wondered if that issue would be cancelled out by the fact that the fleece will have more "give" to it than the flannel would.
That's what I love about sewing. . . so many things to consider. It's kind of an IQ test. . . even on the simplest of projects.

I'm doing the first pair in flannel, I think I should have done the fleece first though because since it's been awhile (10 yrs) since I've done any real sewing, I forgot topay attention to the fabric design before cutting.
Now Dh will have jammies will upright polar bears on one side and upside down polar bears on the other side.
I am SO embarrassed.

Like I said, there are sooo many things to consider, even for a simple project!
Let's just say I've walked in your moccosains. Consider it a learning experience. At least you didn't do it on super fine silk or something irreplacable.

The fleece PJs can be made with 1/4" seam allowances since they won't fray. Even with 5/8" sa for the flannel, you may want to do some kind of seam finish since they will fray.
