I'm using seam binding on a hem to cover the raw edge. Two questions: -- Where do you PLACE the seam binding: How far from the edge of the fabric should the seam binding be positioned? -- Where do you stitch: close to the edge of the seam binding that is in contact with the fabric? Thanks!

Thanks so much for that link. More and more useful info is out there on the web, so thanks so much because I would never have found this resource! A good review or a good tutorial!

This link doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have a copy of this information or remember what it said? Thanks.

That direct link doesn't seem to want to work, so go to Wrights.com and click on the "Classroom" link at the top of the page. That will take you to another page with several choices, but the one you want is the "Sewing link" in the middle of the right side...

There you will find, among other things: Applying Hem Facing,
Applying Single Fold Bias Tape and Applying Double Fold Bias Tape

Thanks, Heidi and dilemmax. They don't seem to have any information about actual seam binding, though -- I'm assuming this means Wrights doesn't manufacture it anymore. Something I read on another site says to apply seam binding to a hem by folding it 1/4" over the edge and stitching it down. Does that sound right to anyone? My skirt fabric frays quite a bit, so I'd like to reinforce the edge of the hem. I can't remember when I last used seam binding, so I'm only guessing here. The kind I have is flat nylon or polyester tape.

Have you done any searching on the net? I found this piece that might be of interest to you. It's all about hems. About half way down (or so - I didn't check that) there is a section that says "Hem with Seam Binding". There is some very good information here. Hope this helps.
