A bit ago in the stores I saw some t-shirts made a of a non-scratchy stretch fabrix that wasn't dull like a cotton interlock, but wasn't as shiny as a stretch satin either. It was kinda inbetween, shimmery I guess.

I looked a polyester interlocks. They had the right weight and drape, but not enough shimmer and were much scratchier than the stuff I found in the RTW shirt. This wasn't it, and it wasn't the spandex interlocks either. Swimsuit material was the most similar, but it was much too heavy and without the requisite amount of stretch.

Does anyone have an idea of what this might have been, and if so, where I could get some?

I'm thinking nylon / lycra blend. Smooth, slightly cool surface?

Slinky is also a possibility. It would have a heavy feel and lots of stretch.

Check Denver Fabrics, Spandex House, Stretch House, or some of the larger on-line retailers.

Also, Emma One Sock has a variety of stretch fabrics you might want to look at.

I'm sorry... slinky? I've no idea what you mean. I'm thinking metal coil.... that's probably not it.

.....

Oh hey, now this looks kinda right: Moleskin stretch

Can anyone tell me what the breathability of some of these fabrics might be?

Emma One Sock website description of slinky.
Denver Fabric's description of slinky.
Breathable in acetate / lycra, not so much in poly/lycra.

The nylon / lycra that I have (RTW) is very comfortable to wear. I've never heard it called moleskin before; the only moleskin I'm familiar with is a polyester blend and thicker (but a nice fabric). I think tricot knits are a nylon / lycra fabric.

Ask for some samples from a few websites to give yourself an idea of the fabric.

P.S. Those metal slinkies are much more fun when you have a staircase, but I don't think I'd want to sew one.
