it locked up (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I have a Singer 15-91 with all the attachments. My mother bought it shortly after I was born, and it is now mine. I learned to sew on this machine. I still use it from time to time, but today it just locked up. The balance wheel won't complete a revolution. Just before this happened, the needle broke. I think the needle broke because the thread tangled and it couldn't feed freely from the spool.
Does anyone have a suggestions what to do? Does anyone know a service man in the Denver area who makes house calls?

Un-thread the entire machine. Remove the bobbin case and the hook. Clean out the hook/race area thoroughly. Sounds like you might have some thread or even a needle chard stuck in the bobbin/hook area?
If you haven't given the machine a good cleaning and oil and lube recently, now would be a good time. Don't forget the grease posts below the handwheel - those lubricate the motor bushings. All of the oil and greasing locations are covered in your manual.
I don't know about Denver, but we don't have any sewing tech's in my area that make house calls unless you are a friend or family member. You probably either have to take care of it yourself, or take the machine out of the cabinet and in for service.

Thanks, Jenny - I was hoping you were online.
I'll do the good cleaning tomorrow and see what happens. I hope it is as simple as that.
