Hi,

Has anyone attempted to get a publisher to bring back "out of print" books. I was thinking specifically of Taunton Press. I want to contact them to ask them to bring some books back. Specifically, the entire "Easy Guide to Sewing" series and Connie Long's "Sewing with Knits".

From what I can tell, there would be a huge demand here. Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions on how to convince them to do that?

Thanks!

You can probably find them used fairly easily on e-bay. Sue

I know the Connie Long book is fairly expensive for a good copy used. But keep looking.

Two excellent resources you might try for used books:

www.alibris.com and www.abebooks.com

Amazon.com has quite a few of these books.

AMAZON doesn't really have those - they have dealers who are listing them through AMAZON. While this can be a convenient way to buy, it is always worth it to check out Alibris and Abebooks. Those two vendors I think, especially Abebooks, seem to have more control over who lists and in general are resources used a lot by the book trade and libraries. I have purchased from them several times, and of course from AMAZON also. Many book sellers sell through all three channels of course.

Check out the ratings of the sellers carefully and the shipping and handling charges with AMAZON associates.

The beauty of the two book sites is that sellers most often will offer a discount on multiple items bought from one seller.

Shipping from the used book vendors on Amazon is ALWAYS $3.99, as stipulated by Amazon.

Also watch Edward Hamilton books, they get lots of remaindered books and the selection changes. I have gotten long out of print books from them.

Thyanks Muffet - I forgot to mention that. Amazon just puts it out for us to see. Love this feature and have bought books from different vendors - with no problem.

I always check BookFinder - it searches all of the used and new book sites so you can see the cheapest price.

As far as getting something reprinted, I suppose it never hurts to write Taunton and ask - if they get enough comments they might consider it.

Oh yes, and then there is Bookcloseouts.com as well. And these and Hamilton have new books, not used. Another source for remaindered books is www.Daedalus.com. They always have lots of children's books, general fiction, some reference, audio books, stationary items sometimes. Good service too.

NAYY of course...:)

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your tips.

Actually, I had already previously purchased "Easy Guide to Sewing Blouses" and "Easy Guide to Sewing Jackets" from used book sellers on Amazon. Also, I just found "Easy Guide to Sewing Linings" for $19.95 from Random House publishers (www.randomhouse.com). It's available other places too, like Half.com and Amazon, but I will probably get it from Random House.

"Sewing with Knits" is the one that is so rare that people are charging way too much for. I went ahead and sent an email to Taunton press to see if they ever put books back in print.

For now, I'll just keep checking all those sites that you all recommended. Thanks again!
