hi guys... my first post! i have very basic sewing skills... have made a couple of basic curtains and a couple of pieces for the kids. am looking for a long sleeve shirt pattern for a 18month/2 year old boy... quite like retro/ vintage stuff... any suggestions.. there is so little for boys and so much for girls... not fair!

Fazzie,

I so agree w/ you as a mom of 19mo son. I looked online at the Vogue catalog the other day and they didn't have a SINGLE boy's pattern! That's just wrong. While I haven't sewn any Ottobre yet, they have some adorable kids stuff that I'm itching to try. And they seem to comprehend that boys wear clothing, too. Check out their website. Burda's pretty good, too.

One word of caution for you. I'm not sure exactly what type of shirt you are referring to, but men's shirts are a little tricky once you start introducing collar stands, sleeve plackets, etc. For this reason I've made some short-sleeved button-downs for him but I'm (still) too scared to attempt an itty bitty long-sleeved one yet. I'm certainly not saying that it's something you couldn't do...you know your learning ability and your ambition to try new things, but it's always good to know that it may be a "richer" learning experience than you were expecting.

As we're approaching cooler weather and DS has no winter clothes, I'm thinking knits are going to be my friend for a while.

Eve

ETA: BTW, welcome to PR!!! (how rude of me to not say that earlier!)

Ths pattern from McCall's is a fairly simple boys shirt pattern. I haven't used this particular one, but their button down, collar stay, sleeve placket version for older boys is a very nice pattern.

I probably have too many sewing machines, but how am I supposed to resist when they're either free by the side of the road or people give them to me?
