Sew disappointing... (Moderated by Sharon1952)

I don't know if this topic is in the right category...
I have officially canceled my Sew News subscription. The newest issue arrived yesterday and I barely read it. There was only one article that was of interest (how to make Peplums for any jacket). My decision to cancel came on the heels of the magazine deciding to drop from 12 to 8 issues per year - right in the middle of my 12-issue subscription. The letter accompanying a previous issue said that future issues will be longer (thicker) and with more articles. With the exception of the home-dec issue (the one that came with the letter), their intentions have not been met.
I already buy Threads. Has anyone tried Vogue magazine?

I agree-will not renew. Tired of hoping that it will get better. There was another thread about Vogue recently-you might try a search.

Me. I decided not to renew Sew News. I can look at each one at the bookstore and decide. I subcribed to Vogue Pattern catalog through their website for about 15.00. I've gotten my 2nd one so far, and will try that magazine.
I'm also getting Threads again, Ottobre, and Burda WOF. I've picked up the last Sewstylish at Hobby Lobby during a pattern sale.

I enjoy Sew news magazine, though lately, it has been pretty light on content. The article on adding peplums showed several jackets that were very poorly fitted. I went online and sent a comment that the poor fit of the garment was very distracting.
I did like the article on fitting the 40+ figure. The fitting techniques are different than the ones I have in my fitting books.

I didn't renew mine either when it expired this past spring. I noticed the new renewal cards said only 8 issues at the time and that they had started combining a few issues while my subscription is still current. What a shame because I think it could be a good magazine ~ thankfully there is Threads.

I received my last issue too, I am not renewing.
I do subscribe to Threads, I have noticed that the last few issues have been really informative.

Sew News has been going down hill for for quite a while.I remember how much I loved the first copies that were black and white in newspaper form. They fired the long time editor Linda G a couple of years ago in hopes of a revival, but I think it's gotten worse. I do still subscribe, because the 2 or 3 issues a year I really like that I would buy on the newstand equal the price of a subscription.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I canceled my subscription a couple of years ago. It just didn't have anything that was particularly stimulating or challenging. I guess after Threads you get kinda spoiled.

If I sewed any slower, I wouldn't be sewing at all.

Hi Lynnelle,
Like most of the others who replied to you, I also did not renew my subscription to Sew News. But I do continue to get Threads and Vogue Patterns, in both of which I find something of interest in each issue. There was a recent thread on Vogue Patterns: Magazine that you might find interesting.

Add me to the "not renewing" group. I had been disappointed in it recently and didn't see the letter that said they were cutting back to 8 issues a year. Ah well...
