I just spent the morning uploading DD's pictures to my computer. She's five and received her digitial camera about two months ago...

Unbelivable! I saw a whole new world... All the grown-ups are HUGE, and staring DOWN at you! And we all seem to have faces that have that 'fish bowl' look

Then I took a look at the movies she'd made. I laughed so hard, my goodness... She even filmed her stomach (the screen turned black, but then her voice said "And this is my tummy, did you see my tummy?" She also filmed her foot , using it as a puppet, while saying "Do you have something to say, then say it to me."

There were a zillion pictures of her cats, dolls and books, and quite a few from school as well. I think it's priceless, something for her to keep when she's grown up. And in the meantime I get to peek into her world... and what a wonderful world that is.

It was DH's idea to get her a camera, and at first I thought she wouldn't know how to use it. Was I ever wrong! Kids today are real savvy about these things.

So, maybe this could be a nice gift for the holidays? Just a thought...

Excellent idea! Our DS is a professional photographer and he has given their kids cameras to use as they desire. It's fascinating to see things from their perspective!

You're right too that kids are so incredibly savvy about all sorts of things now at very young ages too.

I saw Jeff Foxworthy doing one of his redneck routines during which he talked about his 5 year old getting a computer and knowing how to use it! He said when he was five he got one of those wood paddles with a rubber ball attached to it with a big rubber band and he couldn't make that work! I thought it was a fairly accurate comparison in generations! Our grandkids amaze us regularly!

edited 'cause my brain has shut down.

That's an excellent idea. I think I will do this as a Christmas gift. Thanks

The new movie called "The Boy from Mars" starring John Cusack is a great movie about a child and his photography. If you get a chance I would highly recommend it.

Sewing and reading about sewing are daily pleasures.
I hope to use up lots of stash in 2023. I am also starting to give away fabric, tools, etc that I am not going to use in an attempt to downsize.

My dorky kids use my cheapo digital and take the weirdest pictures of each other. You'd have to see them to believe it--dumb looks, scared looks, model poses, you name it, they've done it. I can't wait to use them as blackmail someday LOL!

I was debating a "kid's" digital camera for my DS (she's 4 1/2)... I'd sort of decided she was too young but you've all convinced me to get her one for christmas. (She works the computer-- against orders, usually-- just fine, so I guess she'l figure out the camera pretty well).

Thanks for the tip!

On a recent visit to my sister's, I generously allowed the 7 YO twins to take pix with my digital. Hey, they aren't wasting film and the bad pix can be erased! I was really impressed with the quality of some of the pictures they took. Heck, they were as good as anything I did.

They also took some hugely funny pictures. The top of my head, the inside of their mouths. (I was sitting down) The funniest was my nephew taking a picture of the floral top my DSIL was wearing. He shot from the bottom of her neck to her waist. DSIL is a little on the fluffy side and very busty. We all almost died laughing at that photo.

Until I saw the pix they took I would never have dreamed of giving a 7 YO a camera, but now I think it would be a great gift. Just a very expensive one.

I've been considering this for the kids as well. We've given the older kids each a camera (9+yrs), but not the younger kids (4.5/6.5). I've seen Fisher Price and Little Tykes put out cameras that can take some abuse. Anyone have one, or did you give the kids a real camera?

There was a Hello Kitty thay was so cute. But it only had internal memory, no card, so we ended up with a real camera. It's a Nikon and takes 2 AA batteries. And it's already taken some abuse but is holding up nicely. It's also very lightweight which makes it easier for little hands to hold on to.
