Platonic Blind Dates, have you done it? (Moderated by Pyrose)
Posted on: 11/14/07 11:42 AM ET
My friend Tanika loved that I got to meet so many of my 'virtual' friends over PR weekend. So loved it, that as a fashion reporter at the Baltimore Sun, she wants to write a story! But, she can't interview me because we're friends
Is there anyone in the DC/Baltimore area that has met up or will meet up with your virtual sewing (or non sewing) friends that she could interview? Or maybe someone suggested that you meet up with someone because you have similar interests?

I heard you met up with Carolyn this weekend. I was so green with envy. However, I'm meeting up with some PR friends at a sewing conference here in the southland this weekend. It's so much fun to talk for "real" to your sewing friends. Sorry, but I'm not in the DC/Baltimore area though.

Wilmoed is in the DC area and I know she's met up with some online sewing friends (me included, but I'm in FL).

What about Trina (Nice Girl)? Isn't she in your area? She has such creativity and style - and a great sense of humor.

Not in the DC area, but Izzie and I met on Pattern Review and went on to meet and become sewing buddies here in Madison,Mississippi. I think that it may be more common than you would guess. Your reporter friend might find it interesting that there is a worldwide sorority of sorts of sewing buddies. Could she do the story on Carolyn to get around the personal angle?

I have gotten to know several of my virtual sewing buddies in real life. With one exception, the experience has been really delightful.
Two of the women I have gotten to know ( who I first met on line )live in New York and have become really good buddies. We span very different corners of the Jewish world as well...Those friendships in particular have become very important to me.
The PR weekend was pretty amazing for me. I wa at the saturday night shinding only for a piece of it and I hung out on Sunday as well. meeting Ann and marilyn in particular was pretty wild.. Ann lives next door to the brother of my kindergareten best friend... ( OK I haven't seent he girl since June of 1967) but that was a complete hoo.
There were so many people that I felt..."Oooh these are folks that I want to get to know a bit better" actually you included cidell. I dying to know what you plan to do with that gown that you are planning on making. I had a vision of something with smocking at the waist...

Your friend could extend out her piece considerably at the end to show how sewing brings together people throughout the entire world. In the regional communities msg board there are examples of this throughout Europe, the UK and a recent meeting where PR members from New Zealand and parts of Australia descended on Melbourne for a weekend to meet and shop.
I think this could be a great story in a world where all we currently hear about is the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and elections (both in the US and here in Australia.

Hey everyone,
Please keep the stories coming! Thanks for your help. I think it's such a great angle I'd like to get her as many stories / people as possible.
