I'm looking for a sort of visual compendium of women's collar styles, so I can see what some good options are when I want to alter a blouse or dress collar (e.g. for the fitted blouse/shirt contest). Does anyone know of a good source? I tried Google Images, but didn't find more than a few random pictures of women's collars.

Joan, I know this isn't really what you're looking for, but it does provide a list of different types of collars which you could probably use as a starting point to finding pictures for them.

Modern Pattern Design has a chapter on collars. It's a good place to start.

Thanks, Paula and Marilyn -- those are good places to start. A complete visual guide may not even exist on the Internet... probably it's in a fashion design text or something! I'll start with those two references and scrounge around for some more. Thanks again!

Maybe we should... I'll keep my eyes out for good resources that show women's collar styles. I found a few things here and there in the "limited preview" section of Google Books today (most of the "full text" section [free access to entire books] is from before about 1920). I found the most when I checked under "fashion"/ "collars," so my instinct about finding this information in a good fashion design textbook is probably right. ...Anyone here go to fashion design school and have your old textbook lying around?

Pattern Making for Fashion Design would have what you want plus any other designs for sleeves, pants, necklines, etc. The 4th edition:

http://www.amazon.com/Patternmaking-Fashion-Design-DVD-Package/dp/0131699938

come with a DVD, but the DVD isn't as instructional as it is to test your understanding of what you learned in the text .

So I bet you could find an older edition, maybe even used, that would give you all the wonderful collar views without such a big price : )

My patternmaking software has collars. The demos are always free.
