Okay, so I have been looking all over the place for Daisy Kingdom fabric that Wal-Mart use to sell. But since the store told me they are getting out of the fabric I have not drove 45 min to that store instead shop in my hometown Wal-Mart store. I just got an e-mail back from Daisy Kingdom listing Wal-Mart as a place they are selling their fabric to as of right now. And, if they didn't have what I wanted they could get it from their warehouse. Not what the lady at Wal-Mart led me to believe a year ago. She sounded like what was on the floor was it and they were not getting anymore fabric. Once it was gone it was gone. What is the deal? Had I known I would have drove the 45 min to that town rather than drive 50 min in the opposite direction to JoAnn's where I found absolutely nothing I liked for Easter dresses. I wonder if the hometown store, that does not sell fabric, can get these fabrics for me anyhow? I have to go there today and will check this out.

Anyone else have any info about Wal-Mart's fabric situation?

I think the situation varies from store to store. Some are keeping their fabric and some are not. So far ours still has their fabric dept but I've notice considerably less on the dollar table. (But maybe that's because they had so much dang fleece for the winter there was no room for anything else.)

I tend to only put a little faith in what the cutting table employees say since in corporate world, the workers often don't know of board room decisions until they are actually implemented, but everyone speculates.

When I had a conversation with our Wal Mart ladies last Christmas, they said it's what the manager of the dept. orders, and she may only order a little of that fabric, or it may have sold out quickly to another customer who was watching and waiting to swoop on her chosen fabric. It's also hit and miss as to what is available when the dept. manager choses.

I haven't purchased any Walmart fabric since that last Christmas, so I haven't looked at what ours has in stock. You might do a google on the fabric for some online stores.

The fabric departments are closing and the ones that still have fabric have less than desirable choices.

Check eBay for the fabric you are looking for.

In the Orlando area, a few of the stores still have a fabric department. Fortunately, one of them is on the route between home and office. The stuff isn't the greatest, of course, but it's a handy place to pick up zippers, the occasional ribbon, and patterns I simply must have NOW.

Our local Wal-Mart still has fabric. One of the ladies there told me at least a year ago they would be closing it but it is still there. And I have not seen that there has been a noticible decrease of the fabric there.

When our Wal-Mart closes that will leave our Joanns and one independent. The independent is a place that primarily makes draperies and slip covers. Although they do have some apparel fabric and quilting fabric but neither is in large quantities. The independent does, however, have some notions I do not find @ Walmart or Joannes.

My local Wal-Mart (Kernersville, NC) still has fabric, too. I also was told about a year ago that the fabric would be gone by April 2007. It's still there but not as much as they used to have. Last time I went in the fabric looked pretty low. The clerk told me she was ordering fabric but it wasn't coming in. She was wondering if her orders were being keyed in.

My local WM still has fabric. Seems to be the same amount as always. Several months ago, when this topic was brought up, I asked one of the employees cutting fabric for me, whether they would continue to sell fabric. She told me they sell a lot of fabric & would continue to sell it.

What?! WalMart is closing its fabric departments? Where am I going to find my $1/yard muslin fabric?!

The fabric store situation where I live is getting pretty dire. The nearest WalMart still has a fabric department for now, but the Joann's is probably one of the smallest and sloppiest stores in their chain. I can hop a train and travel 35 minutes into the city, but that's not as easy as it sounds, as I work full-time and many garment district stores are closed on the weekends. And it costs about $20 to take the train round-trip.

Sigh. It's not like the days of my youth where it seemed like there was a fabric store on every block....

They just opened a Supercenter down the street from me complete with new fabric department. I doubt they would have opened the new store witht eh fabric department if they were planning on moving it out soon.

I dont' think all the fabric departments are going away, just probably the ones that don't have a high turnover rate for fabric.
