I have a tilted waist. I always need to add to the back and lower the front on pants. I finally realised that what I might need to do is this- draw a line at about my 'bikini line' on a pattern, and then cut the pattern across both the front and back and tilt it the two inches both directions need to go like so:

Is it really that easy?

Pretty much. The only thing to watch is where the waist line intersects with the centre back or centre front seam, it should create a right angle. Otherwise when you sew the waist seam you will have a funny point at the centre back and a dip at the front. Rather than use a perfectly straight line, use a gentle arc. Otherwise, yep it's that simple.

*boggles* I really expected it to be oh so complicated.

I just altered the pattern-- now it really looks like my body.

Omigosh, I'm so excited-- thank you thank you thank you!

Yup, it really is that easy. Just one observation in case you ever want to make a garment with an elastic waistline casing: cut a separate waistband. I have to lop off 1" from the center front of all waistlines (including adjusting RTW) and also have a high hip on one side. A separate waistband is the only practical means of negotiating the odd-shaped contour of the garment waistline.
