I have a simple yoga pant pattern from Kwik Sew. I am starting to teach myself the fine art of fitting..and since pants crotch lengths are always long I decided to measure it out. My front to back crotch length is 26 inches. The pattern is 24 inches. The front piece crotch length is 9.5 inches on the pattern. The back piece crotch length is 14.5 on the pattern. The hip and waist are perfect for me by measuring the pattern. So knowing I must add 1 inch to my 26 inch crotch length for ease...and divide that by two....then make the front section 2 inches shorter than the back...I come up with a need of 12.5 in in front and 14.5 inches in back. This would say I have to adjust it by adding 3 inches to both front and back pieces....Can anybody figure out what I need to do, because I am not getting it....I am reading Fast Fit. Thanks.

I have made several yoga pants from Kwik Sew - you might not have to add to the length, because this is a knit fabric.

BTW Kwik Sew makes great yoga pants - the only thing I did to this pattern (I have #2632) was to drop the CF a bit and add 1" to length (always have to do this).

You can add to the lengths, and then you will know how to fine tune in the fitting. The pants only take about an hour or so to make.

In reply to Sunny Daze
In knit pants the ease in the crotch is 0 to maybe 1/4" If you don't want the crotch down around your knees, don't add to it.

Thank you! I try to make pajama pants and the crotch is always so long. I am just hesitant to make another pair of pants without knowing how to fit this area..I think you are right to just try it the way they are...this is my first Kwik Sew pattern. I'll add some length as suggested. Thank you so much for your help!

I would do an additional measurement - how long are your front crotch length and back crotch length, each separately? Everyone's got a different proportion here, and adding three inches on both the front and back crotch length to your pattern may not match your body (and I would agree, you don't need 1" of ease for a knit). For example, I usually have to add to the back crotch length but not the front, as most of my length is needed in the back (big booty!). (Also, make sure you're taking account of the seam allowances when you flat measure the pattern.)

The Singer Sewing Guide, at least my edition, has a great part about adjusting the crotch lengths in pants, in case you have access to it. I like Fast Fit and use it a lot, but I don't remember a lot of pant fitting info in there.
