This fabric here...is is really, really sheer? I'd love t use some for a blouse but rather not have to wear a camisole underneath.

Anyone ever use this? Is cotton lawn similar as far as transparency?

I bought a dotted swiss type blouse and if it gets worn out of the house there will be something under it.

This is a coincedence. I was just asking a friend yesterday if she remembered Dotted Swiss Cotton. I haven't seen it in years. I remember having a dress out of it when I was about 12 (a very long time ago). It was Navy blue with white dots. It was sheer and I remember either it was lined or I wore a full slip under it. Yes, it is sheer. Unless you are an exhibitionist, you would need something under it.

That's an interesting dotted Swiss.
Typically dotted swiss is on a fine cotton lawn.
This one is produced by Kaufman, which is (to my knowledge) primarily a home dec fabric house.
And from the description, they're suggesting it for pillows and quilt applications, although they're calling it semi-sheer.
I've got a black and a white cotton dotted swiss White dot swiss black dotted swiss and you can see in these large photos how sheer they are. They are photographed draped over a dress form covered in a white shell.
Definitely not quilt or pillow material.
I also have a silk dotted swiss that is as sheer as a chiffon.

I just can't think that this Kaufman dot fabric is that sheer.

Hrmmm...don't think I'll get that, then. I want white, but the point is to wear one layer. It's summer! I don't want to have to wear a camisole.

Why not underline it with a light cotton batiste or lawn?

You'd probably only have to underline the front bodice.

Marji, Kaufman is also well known as a high quality quilt fabric supplier. They also make a lot of well known basic fabrics, such as a line of solid colored percales and Kona cotton, etc. I'm not familiar with their current quilt lines, but in the past their quality has been nearly equal to the Hoffman International and California lines.
