Do you trust the sellers on eBay?
I'm looking for used embroidery machine and don't know whom I could trust more online : ebay or service centers where used machine for sale.
I have a little tight budget for new good machine so I'm between Babylock and Janome..
On ebay the prices are inbelievable and I'm afraid to trust there.
Do you have experience with online buy, maybe on ebay?

I have purchased two Singer Featherweights on ebay. The most important thing is to only buy through paypal. They will protect you 100%. My ebay experiences have been very positive and I think it's because I only purchase from seller's with high ratings and who offer paypal. Good Luck

I buy on ebay all of the time. I bought a very expensive camera lens on there a few years ago. I have never had any problems. I agree that you should always use paypal. I use paypal for other purchases outside of ebay as well. I recently had a problem with Paragon Patterns not mailing my item or responding to my emails. I went through the paypal resolution center and I now have all of my money back.

I bought my Bernina Serger (new in box w/o warranty) on Ebay and didn't have any issues. It was a smooth transaction, I got what I paid for (a very good price, 1/2 of the amount my local dealer wanted) and have had no problems with my machine. Although, I do wish I could have had the lessons. I have had my serger for 2 1/2 years and still cannot figure out the coverstitch! It is my goal one of these weekends when I don't have anything going on to delve into the dark unknown.....

ETA: If the price of something is extremely unbelievable and the dealer/seller doesn't have much of a feedback section, I'd pass. Definitely look at their ratings and pay attention to whether that rating came from selling or buying.

I bought a Pfaff on ebay and was able to pick it up locally. I also bought a Janome and a Kenmore from a liquidator on Ebay. All the machines were great. I have also bought and sold several machines on Craig's List. I found a great Elna serger for $100.00 and bought my Designer 1 with 20 hours there. Somewhere on these boards someone wrote a huge list about buying a machine on Ebay, maybe another reader has the link.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Buying a machine on eBay is no differnt than buying anything else -- you'll probably really want to check the feed back. There are a few things to consider when buying a machine on eBay, then say for example, books.
Sewing machines need to be packed very carefully. Ragardless of feedback, I would be carefull of anyone who doesn't specialize in shipping machines. Really carefull of anyone who is selling a machine that used to belong to grandma or that they found at an estate sale. They might be very relable sellers, but that doesn't mean they know how to ship a sewing machine in a way that it won't get damaged during shipping. Also, if you buy used from a dealer (I did, great expierence) you may be able to get free lessons and a warentee, so I think it's something you might want to consider as well.
good luck!

Hey Ronda, one suggestion for your serger is that when it's due for its annual service, take it in to a reputable Bernina dealer for the routine service. They may charge more than other places, but they will know the machine well and will likely do a good job. And while you have it there, just tell the technician that you are having trouble figuring out the coverstitch & and ask if he/she can work w/you on it. I know that our Bernina dealer services machines no matter where you bought them for the usual service fee. I forget what they charge for a serger cleaning/service, but the technician is very friendly and always glad to spend a few minutes explaining things to the customer. Just an idea!!

I needed a serger but couldn't afford to pay $1000 for one at one of the dealers here so I found a brand new Juki on Ebay for a great price. I had no problems at all and I love this serger. The seller had a great rating and good feedbacks so I went for it and am not disappointed.
