My very, very, very favorite indie fabric store, Field's Fabrics, is having their "famous" annual tent sale starting this week. They have 7 locations between GR, Holland, and Kalamazoo, and each store has their sale on a different week. This means you can spread out your spending among multiple paychecks. Here is the schedule.

For anyone not familiar w/ Field's, they are a family owned business and their fabric stores are huge (and staff is knowledgeable and helpful!!!). You aren't going to find a lot of high-end silks, but you can get most everything else there. Fabulous selection of knits, every notion under the sun, home dec, quilting...yadda, yadda. 75% of my garments have been made w/ Field's fabrics.

Their tent sales are a blast...super cheap fabrics and lots of it, plus other goodies on sale too. If you're going to be anywhere near the area, it's worth checking out.

I am HORRIBLY depressed that I have to miss it this year. Installing a new patio, having trees professionally trimmed, and pre-vacation is leaving me w/ no play money this month. So somebody please go out there and spend for me, k?

You're welcome!
Eve

Road Trip!!!!!!!

Of the ones that are next week, which stores would be the best to hit. Any better than the other for selection, location, etc?

I'm going to Map them to see which is closest to me from Lansing.

Well, I've only been to Holland and Kzoo (cuz that alone gets me into plenty of trouble and they're the closest drive), but I love both. Great staff, great stuff. Kzoo's just barely an hr from Williamston...always a detour on the way to my parents' house...and it's right off 94 so it's easy to get to, but maybe GR is closer? Not sure. I think there's a map on their site w/ the locations.

p.s. - let me know if you score!

It looks like they are about the same distance, give or take, but unfortunately we're heading out of town to Cedar Point tomorrow and will be gone all weekend. And next week I'm on vacation, so it will have to be then.

Anyone else familiar with the stores/locations in Grand Rapids?

I wish we had some locally owned stores around here. I'm not a Joann's hater but some diversity would be nice. Speaking of Joann's, Red Tag fabric is 50% off this weekend too.

I couldn't agree more!! That's why I drive the hour from time to time. Plus, they really do stock a lot of knits (sometimes in more than one place in the store, so look around if you go), and we all know what Joann's knit inventory is (or isn't) . Oh, and their Burda's and KwikSews go on sale from time to time, too. I'm really not affiliated...I couldn't afford to work there. I just think it's a great store.

If you're from Lansing, do you ever go to my favorite high-end store in Williamston, The Fabric Gallery? Mmmmmm......yummy stuff! She's having a 20% off all fabrics sale July 10-19.

Have fun at the Point!!!

No, I don't know anything about it. I'm only about 10 minutes from Williamston. I'm actually in Dansville.

I will definitely go!

Thanks!

DOH!!! Yes, you must. You can touch $75/yd silk, but there are lots of affordable ($10 and under) splurges, too, esp. at 20% off. She's right downtown, across from the Felpausch. Sooooo...am I getting you into trouble yet?

If you're looking for fashion fabrics, I'd have to say that the Walker store is the best. It could just be that they are laid out better - but it seems like they have more selection. The Jenison and Grand Rapids locations are still great, though!

I'm already in trouble. I just had my husband move another set of shelves into the basement for my fabric!

A girl's gotta have a hobby (or is that an addiction)

We go to Williamston all the time for dinner too and I've never noticed it. My ex husband lives 2 doors down from it above a store downtown.

Hit the jackpot today! Went to the tent sale. I found a magnetic pincushion for $1! Sweet. Also some fabric that has the same feel as some nicer fabric that I haven't dared cut into because I don't want to ruin it - but at $1 a yard, I figure this will hopefully be a wearable muslin. Oh yeah, I also got some fabric that wasn't on the tent sale but was still a great deal, and I snagged a current issue of BWOF. Life is good.
