On my machine. (Moderated by Sharon1952)

Yikes ~ While I was quilting I had some of color of the fabric rub off onto my machine. I tried alot of stuff to remove it but it only took off of some of the red stain. Has anyone ever had this problem?

I have not had this particular problem but I have used toothpaste to remove stubborn stains from surfaces I didn't want to injure. Yes, toothpaste. If you think about it, polishes your teeth and you don't want to take any of the underlying surface off when you are doing so. Give it a try and see if it will work. Just put some on a rag and rub the stained area lightly and see if any color comes off onto the rag. An old t-shirt or other soft cloth would be ideal. Then just keep at it using a circular motion until the stain is removed. It shouldn't hurt the baked on finish of paint that is used on sewing machines. It will make the paint surface more shiny so you may have to give a large area of your sewing machine that Pepsodent smile rub down to blend the areas together. There are more aggressive polishing compounds that will work, but they might be too abrasive for those unused to handling them. They can cut through the finish before you know what happened. Not so with toothpaste. .

You might also try some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. It removes ink so maybe it will remove dye. And it doesn't rust so it tends to be safer for metal surfaces. Just be careful if the surface is painted or coated with some sort of finish. Try it on a small area first.

Maybe the mr. clean magic eraser?
What happened is called crocking, and it is not uncommon with red dyes, and also with denim that has not been washed many times. I made a few skirts with cheap denim ....you should see my dryer!

There's no such thing as too much fabric.

Yes, I had that happen years ago when my Viking #1 was brand-spanking new! (Yikes!) It was a quilting cotton, a reddish-brown. I was horrified! I think I finally used an old wet soft wet dishtowel with some Fantastic & just kept rubbing. Got most of it off, but was really bummed!
Now when I pre-wash my quilting cottons or denims I add some vinegar to the wash-water to set the dyes. Anything that I think even might bleed or rub-off.

PVA (Pat) "A girl can't have too many scissors!"
If I don't have time to do it right, when will I have time to do it over?

I had this happen on a borrowed machine.
I used Soft Scrub on a soft cloth and it came right off. Do test it first to make sure it doesn't damage the surface. Good luck!

I've had this happen a couple of times, with burgundy fabric that I used for quilt backs. The few things I tried didn't work - I didn't want to get too adventurous with liquids near machinery - so I just let it be. Eventually, it all rubbed off and my machine is white again.

I threw some red fabric in the dryer once and was soo surprised to see that it turned the cylinder red. I got it all out with a bottle of 409, a roll of paper towels and a lot of gentle scrubbing, aka elbow grease.
