Do you keep notes, measurements etc. in some kind of system? I just made some pj shorts for DS and had to guess which size I made for him last Christmas, then realized I had no idea of his waist measurement for the elastic. I cannot for the life of me remember how I did that - I did them for everyone and I know I put elastic in them! I wonder if I should start a notebook or a file of some kind. I did get smart and write on the pattern piece who I made it for this time.

My kids aren't grown, but I have a little spreadsheet I made in my Excel program that and record my children's measurment in Every so often I remeasure them and just print a new sheet out and keep it handy in my sewing room. It works great for me.

I do a 3"X5" card on DH and grown DS around Thanksgiving each year, noting waist, chest, neck circumf, pant inseam and so on. Neither of them minds at all, and now neither does DS's lovely wife.

I keep the cards in the front of the box or file holding the most-likely to be used patterns.

Jan - I sure wish I knew about DTD's earlier! It would have made my life easier. I doubt that DS will stand for one, but I may one day get DD to do one.

I have finally started a sewing notebook for some projects that are simple but I need reminders on. I think it would be pretty easy to add a page per family member. Then I will just have to remember which pile of fabric the notebook is under. No excel spread sheet for me!

Totally - how did you guess??? LOL Heck no, that would make me too anxious if I really knew how much stash I actually have.

I used to just make a grid on my notebook paper for each of my kid's measurements, but then I realized it would be so much easier (not to mention neater looking) if I made it on the computer so I could just print a new one each time I updated. I'm so brilliant, huh?

I'm loving this thread! I just finished an A-line skirt that came out way too small for me. DD was visiting and it fit her perfectly so I finished it up for her to take back home.

I haven't sewn in years and was pleasantly surprised at how much she appreciated my talents. When she was at home, all I heard was complaints over fittings. Now that she's grown and gone, it was a whole different story! And wow! did she appreciate the custom touches on a "sewn by mom" garment!

I'm going to use some of these ideas to keep sharing the love!

I try to keep DD's measurements updated in PMB so I can print them out when I need them. I have a stack of printouts stuck in the box that holds my current patterns-of-interest. Having the date on the PMB list is a huge help. I carry a card in my purse with teensy little printing, too. The card reminds me of the best RTW measurements to look for - sideseam to sideseam at the bottom of the armhole and shoulder width on knit shirts and blouses; crotch length, thigh width and measurement at the top of a waistband for pants; hip width on dresses and skirts; etc, etc and so forth. My purse tape measure and I have found some real bargains that way. The difference between the PMB list and the purse card is that one is body measurements and the other is finished garment measurements.
ETA And Petro, I know what you mean about changing sizes in a hurry. The PMB list includes weight (which I have to estimate, of course), so I can use the list that corresponds today's best guess.
