Hi It's Me Again,

Now it's the thread for these machines. Do I invest in poylester or rayon machine embroidery thread?????
Oh, and I will probably be back someday with the reader writer box thing a majigs. Does it ever end!!!!!!!!
I keep telling myself, you're 60, it's good for your brain, all this new stuff is good food for your brain.

Cheryl,
I'll tell you what I recommend for new embroiderers and it is not what I did! Some machines are very particular/fussy about the thread you use; some are not. So first, you want to find out which type you have. Do some sample designs with both poly and rayon thread and decide which one has the look you like. Did you have thread breaks with either? Did one type of thread just feel better to you? Once this is decided, I would pick a brand and stick to it. I have a melange of various brands and sizes and it works but my embroidering life would be much easier if I had threads from one company. If you can swing it, you might think about one of the thread sets that most companies carry. Overall they are cheaper and, even better, you don't have to scrounge around the countryside at 6pm on Saturday trying to find the one color you don't have. There are plenty of good brands of thread (Sulky, Superior, Marathon, Madeira, Isacord...). Buy the color charts that actually have thread samples in them; this is invaluable if you do need to crossmatch to another brand.
Do think about where and how you are going to store your threads. I have the Isacord on a thread rack on a door and the Madeira and Sulky in drawers. Do you need the boxes to store them? Once again, your life will be easier if you have all the same brand and can move things around as needed.
Happy stitching!

I've used Robinson-Anton and it breaks every time. I used it with an older Viking Rose and has such bad luck with it.
Well when I got my Bernina machines, I've used Madiera and Isacord exclusively. My take is that Madiera is OK but as I use colors up that came with the machine, I'm replacing them with Isacord as I've never had a thread break using it.
Although, I must admit, when I do embroider and I'm going over foundation stitches that may be a couple layers, I slow the machine down as it helps in not breaking the thread.
So I guess my answer is Isacord.
Matt :-)

An instructor told me that polyester embroidery thread is stronger but rayon is softer. I tried out a couple samples using both kinds of thread & I think I agree with her. The difference doesn't seem dramatic but it is there. Both threads have a nice sheen to them but rayon seems to me a bit shinier. I think I'll use poly thread for items that will get a lot of stress in the embroidery area & rayon for clothing & baby things.
Whether you use poly or rayon embroidery thread you will probably have to loosen your needle tension a notch or two depending on your machine. You'll have a blast figuring all this out. After I got past the thread thing now I'm trying to navigate the question of what stabilizer to use!

Hi Patti B
Wow!! Thank you for all that great guideline information. I am printing this up for my future crazy moments and I know I will have many.
Patti everytime I see your name and picture, I'm reminded of a Patti I knew in Naples, Fl. You look so much like her and the same name too. Your double perhaps!!
Thanks again Patti,
Cheryl

Hi Matt
Thank you for the info. Where does one buy Isacord??? I am so new to all this, you go over foundation stitches a couple of layers. Are you do it that way for dimension?? I am clueless.

Cheryl,
I think I just have a very common face. Everywhere we've lived (Air Force brat, corporate wife), I've had a doppelganger!
If you go with Isacord, the best pricing I have found is from I Machine online. Someone else may have another supplier they can suggest.
For stabilizers, I really like the Floriani line.

Will probably be a case of trial and error to find the thread that works best with your machine. I have a Babylock and have discovered it does not like Sulky brand thread at all. It doesn't seem to like Robison-Anton either. I have used Madiera's polyneon and rayon with great results. It seems to like Isacord too. I only tried that one once when I was at my class for the machine.
Have you seen the Threadart thread in the Machine Embroidery Forum. Some really good tips/ideas on thread.

I usually find Isacord thread at my local Bernina dealer. The dealer who sold me the machine has a very good deal when I take my machine in for a spa treatment. He'll sell me a whole box (16 or 20 spools I cannot remember) for 100.00 and it's my choice of what I put in the box. It's a nice treat for me when I need to stock up.
