need natural remedies (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

I have allergy/sinus problems & take Zyrtec daily. The last couple weeks, I have had sinus congestion causing daily headaches. Taking something like Sudafed helps, but causes my heart to race! I have asked my dr. & he says any decongestant will cause that. Taking Tylenol helps the pain somewhat, but is not treating the problem & I hate doing that every day. I use a saline wash & that helps a little.
Anyone have any natural remedies that might help?

When you say saline wash do you mean the spray? If so, I've read that can irritate your sinuses even more.
I love my Netti pot. It's gentle and easily flushes plugged sinuses.

For sinus headaches, I like to take Guaifenisen which is an expectorant. That means it loosens the congestion and helps it to drain, and doesn't dry you out as much as the sudafed. I also use Flonase for chronic problems. No, they're not natural but they don't seem to have many side effects.
During the winter, the dry air really irritates my sinuses so I run a humidifier in the bedroom at night, and one in the family room during the day.

If you are experiencing sinus pressure headaches due to changes in air pressure, my doctor says there is not much you can do besides take an extra strength sinus headache remedy and then cross your fingers. She has suggested that some people get relief from using a neti pot.
My allergy and asthma meds keep ar working to keep my congestion pretty much under control but there are days when a front is coming (24-48 hours away) that render me pretty much useless due to pain.

I take a claritan, run a hot bath and open a jar of vix. The heat and the menthyol really helps me clear up in allergy season.

First, let me just say ~ I SWEAR by my Netti Pot!
My 16 yo son used to take Zyrtec and/or Claritin all the time until he started using the Netti, now he takes NO medication. He isn't even rinsing all the time any more, just if he gets a flare-up and then it is gone after a couple of rinses.
You may want to request a referral to an ENT and get some imaging done; a CT of your sinuses would be a good place to start as sometimes, like in my case, you can have small sinuses, poor drainage, blockage, fluid build-up, etc. and not even know it. All the while the Dr. is just assuming the you are having allergies, maybe an infection when it gets really bad, a cold and so on. In the mean time, things can keep building up and getting more blocked.
By the time I was referred, it looked like I had a golf ball in my cheek!
I had such a severe and intractable sinus infection/impacted sinuses, lasting for well over a year, that the ENT Dr. wanted to drill my sinuses
So my Naturopath sent me some J's Nosedrops and told me to give them a shot before resorting to surgery. Since I couldn't handle the smell of the drops straight
I put them in my Netti w/the saline. I am happy to report that my sinuses are intact, clear and undrilled! lol
When my DH had a Sinus infection a couple of months ago, all it took was two x with the drops (the smell doesn't bother him) and a couple of rinses w/the Petti, and he was better!
I am so sorry you are having to deal with this, I know how painful and distracting it can be. I hope this information is at least little helpful for you

Aloe Vera plant juice helps with congestion. The plant is pretty common: I saw it for sale at few home improvement centers that sell indoor plants (like Home Depot, Lowes etc). All you need to do is crash a piece of leaf, squeeze few drops of juice and apply a drop or two into each nostril.
Hope you get better soon.

Did you just begin running your heat? It will dry your house and your nose out. Once we begin heating the house, we run a vaporizer. The additional moisture will really help your sinus problems. You can pick one up at any drugstore for about $20.

Another neti pot user here. Don't be afraid to use it a couple of times a day. I only tend to use mine when I'm feeling congested, but using it twice a day really helps. I also second the suggestion of a humidifier/vaporizer. Also, remember to drink plenty of fluids - I like hot chamomile tea with honey and lemon when I'm feeling stuffy or sick.
When I was in high school and had "sinus infections" (I now question the "infection" part of it a bit - I think a neti pot would have helped me a lot then), I went to an ENT and they did a CT. They found a deviated septum and a polyp in my left sinus. Interesting, but..what good did that knowledge do me? My symptoms weren't bad enough to warrant surgery. So, I wouldn't push a CT unless you are ready to think about the possibility of surgery. That's a lot of radiation to subject your head to if you're really just looking for conservative therapy.
