I was browsing the Cyber Monday sales and saw the iPod Touch was one of Best Buy's. They have the 8, 16 and 32 2nd Generation and the 16 1st generation all on sale.
Does anyone have any of these? I am lost when it comes to these things. From what I have read, they have a wi fi connection so that you can get on the Internet??? Email? Watch movies and listen to lots of music?
These would be Xmas gifts for my kids so can someone advise me on the iPod Touch?

we don't have an touch, though we've been looking at one (can you show me the deal? maybe i'll pick one up). anyway, from what i understand, an iPod touch is pretty much the iPhone, without the phone. yes, they have wi fi, so you can get online. i would think email would be done via a webmail type thing, but i am not sure (but yes, somehow you can do email on them). you can download movies, tv shows, videos, music, all through iTunes. you can also download apps/games through iTunes, some are free, some are a few bucks. some are silly, some are more useful.

if your kids will want to watch movies and such, i'd go for the 16 or 32 gig ones. movies take up a lot (you don't have to keep everything on the touch, but still, if you want movies, music, apps, and maybe some tv shows, go for the larger memory, IMO).

My dd loves her i pod the third generation nano, because it fits in a small woman's pocket. The touch is quite a bit bigger and probably won't. My ds prefers the classic because he can put a lot more on it. When he was in school he'd put lectures on it too. He has the 80 gig I think. I have the nano second generation and I love it for exercise and for plugging it into my car radio for hours of music. The 4th went back to the shape of the second generation and it is thin and light. Depends on what you want it to do. If you want to put movies and videos on it, the screen on the touch is the largest. If they want to put movies and videos on it, I agree that you should get the largest one.

Eggs-actly it is an iPhone minus the phone. Very handy instrument and being without the phone makes it less expensive to operate because wi-fi allows you to surf the web in any hot spot without paying for an ISP. :)

A better deal on iPod Touches can be had at the Apple Store: Refurbished iPods.

Refurbs are never-used merchandise that was probably ordered in bulk by a company and then returned to the vendor. Apple checks all returns out and warranties them the same as brand new. These iPods are probably the previous generation, but there's not a great deal of difference between them and the new ones.

Go with the highest memory you can afford. Apps are never going to use LESS memory.

The one complaint I have heard a lot about the Touch is that the battery life between recharges is not as long as most people would like. It's a problem Apple is working on for the next generation.

DS got the 32 over the summer and he loves it. He has a ton of movies and a ton of songs on it. He can check his email or surf the net anywhere there is a wifi signal. It's great. I highly recommend it.
