What is a good affordable light/lamp for sewing? (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

What is a good affordable light/lamp to use when I am sewing? My sewing room is not well-lit, and I find I am straining my eyes when I am sewing or picking out seams.

IMO, the Ott Lite lamps when JoAnn's has them on a 40% off sale.

I have 2 floor standing OTT lights in my sewing room and each of my 2 machines has the Quilters Bendable light attached which makes a huge difference.

I use a halogen lamp I got at Ikea for $9.99. :)

A CFL or ott light will produce less heat than a regular bulb or a halogen.
I use a cheap, gooseneck lamp ($about $10 at any discount store) with a daylight CFL ($8)- (look for one in the 5000 to 6500K range of the color scale). This type of bulb produces the equivalent of 100 watts of light, but only uses 27 watts. The color of the daylight (aka full spectrum) bulb is easier on the eyes and shows colors more accurately.

I use an extended arm desk lamp, like what you would see on an architect's desk, with a 60 watt bulb in it. I can't use CFL or Ott lights because there is a warning with them for people who have family members with macular degeneration, and CFL bulbs flicker and aggravate my weak eye muscles. I like the extended arm lamp because I can sit it on the corner of my sewing desk and it stretches as far as over my machine. It was about $20 at Target.

Thanks to a post from a PatternReviewer, I picked up the 'JANSJÖ' task lamp. I liked it enough to go back for a second lamp for my jewelry bench.

I had an Ott light floor lamp, and it worked great for two years. Then it wouldn't turn on. I replaced it with a lamp from Staples with a daylight bulb in it. It cost 1/4 what the Ott light did, so if it stops working I'm not out a lot of $$$.
I also use a swing arm lamp over my treadle, again with a day light bulb. It works for me, and again didn't cost a lot.

I do not have this one maybe someone here does
and can comment on if it is worth the price http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/smart+buys/smart+buys-+supplies/bendable+bright+light.do I keep looking at and wondering if it would be good. It looks like it would be but I have not pulled the trigger yet. Thought I would just post it as an option.

You can also purchase daylight bulbs for the flourescent fixtures, they are a a little more expensive but well worth it. I have no natural light in my sewing room so this is what I did, along with putting a long one over my sewing area.
