There's a fabric blend that's just come in recently at my local Fabricland -- cotton-silk. It's quite pricy for Fabricland -- $25/meter -- but it looks beautiful. Does anyone here have experience using and/or wearing this blend? I may try it out one day, next big sale or something, but I'm curious to learn more about it first.

Thanks!

I actually have a cotton silk blend in stash but have not cut into it for a project. It feels absolutely divine though.

In reply to Vintage Joan
Years ago, I made myself a cotton/silk Hawaiian style shirt (washing and drying the fabric before working with it). The shirt was incredibly comfortable and surprisingly long-lived. I loved it and wore it until it was a rag.

I bought a few yards of cotton-silk from someone on eBay. It is a gingham type check.. but raspberry pink and navy very dark navy. Seller said it was Patchington mill or brand or something.

So far it has been thru the pre-wash / dry a couple of times and the hand is great.

Maybe it will be a tailored shirt someday. Look on e-Bay and you might find some more. Seller had a black/white check also.

Fabricmart has some of this luscious-sounding fabric -- and theirs is 20% off right now. Silk can be a very long lasting fiber and combined with cotton sounds perfect for comfortable wearing.

I have a couple of pieces and a shirt and I love it. It feels so soft and absolutely fabulous on the skin. From my experience, it wears longer and holds its color better than all cotton.

I have some silk/cotton jacquard in my stash. I bought it at Stone Mountain & Daughter in Berkeley in January. It is destined to be some pants using a Marcy Tilton pattern. Soon - I hope! It washed beautifully. (I paid about $25 yard for it)

I got a piece of cotton/silk shirting from Fabric.com just recently. Feels divine and shimmers a little in the light. No help here on the care and wear, though--I haven't had time to cut into it yet.

I probably have too many sewing machines, but how am I supposed to resist when they're either free by the side of the road or people give them to me?

Oh my, now I have no choice, lol. It sounds from your experiences like I'm going to have to start planning what to make out of cotton-silk.
