Now that I have gained enough weight to show my legs and upper arms in public again, I am looking at the self tanning products. My arms will tan, but my legs never have. I did use a tanner when they first came out and orange is not my color, at least for skin.

Has anyone used them lately? Do they last as long as the labels say? Any warnings?

thanx, jan

I'll be watching this thread. I'm just like you. Arms will tan, legs will not.

All but one of the self-tanners I've used stink like burnt coffee. And the one I loved is discontinued.

I heartily recommend that you visit the site www.sunless.com - it contains the most comprehensive sunless tanner information (reviews, boards etc) that I have ever seen.

I too hate the smell of sunless tanning products and the orange look. Here is what I have been using since last summer. It doesn't smell and it looks fantastic! In fact I use it all year when I have to show leg...

I've had reasonable results with Jergen's Natural Glow Moisturizer. My colors are white or red and this took the edge off the white on my legs and didn't turn orange. If you put it on every other day, it works well but as I have white towels, I know that eventually it starts to rub off... I haven't tried a lot of these products and have mostly given up as it's too much work to keep it up, but when I must have non-white legs, it works nicely.

Does this rub off on clothing? Particulary back of knees after sweating? I forgot about this product, thanks for reminding me.

I use Coppertone Sunless tanning lotion; I'm really sensitive to chemical smells, and this one I've found is pretty good. No orange legs; in fact, it smooths them out so they look like you've been using lotion on them. Really good stuff, I'd say.

I'm so pale that the idea of tanning is a joke, and the best thing I've ever found to give my legs a little color is this self tanner by "Never Over the Hill" products (NAYY). The independent owner/chemist, John Hill, is a former industrial cosmetics guy who is scrupulous about what he puts in his products.

His self tanner is an extremely light spray that you can further smooth by using those thin little medical gloves so you don't stain your hands. On me, the color is subtle and natural, neither orange nor brown, and lasts about four or five days. I can go darker by reapplying after the first coat, but usually don't bother, since the rest of me is so ghostly that a hint of color is quite enough.

This stuff doesn't have the usual self-tanner stink; rather, it smells like vanilla, definitely the nicest scent I have found in self tanners. One of the most surprising qualities is that since the base is macadamia oil, the spray is extremely light-textured yet astonishingly moisturizing. I don't have to use lotion afterward.

The tanner comes in two sizes: a two ounce bottle--which seems tiny but lasts me for many weeks--and a four ounce.

Again, I'm not affiliated in any way with the company, but I have found this self-tanner pretty special.

I also use Jergen's Natural Glow Moisturizer and recommend it. It looks natural, not orange at all. Use it every day and make sure to exfoliate once a week.
