Newspaper article

So, this is the article that is the result of over an hour phone interview and about an hour photo shoot. I was interviewed about how I save my family money as a result of some of the tips that I've posted to the Cheepskates blog. We had a blast during the interview and I'm glad that it stayed pretty much true to my actual manner of speech....though I *am* a little chagrined to say that I do say "easy-peasy" IRL....lol.

So, there you have it! Complete with a large picture of me standing amdist some of the clothing I've made for the family, including some that I've reviewed here and some that I haven't gotten around to reviewing yet....lol

Larisa, that was a great article. How does it feel to be a celebrity? When I saw the article was in the News Leader, I took a double take I live in Richmond, and years ago we use to get two daily papers, the Times Dispatch in the morning and the News Leader at night. Now they only offer the Times Dispatch in the morning. All of your cost cutting ideas were inspirational. But the neatest thing about all this, you got to show off some of your sewing creations Has this article generated calls from locals, for you to do some sewing for them? Congrats on the article

Thanks, and it's kind of funny...lol...instant recognition at the gas station (I was too afraid of the response to go to Food Lion...lol). No calls from locals yet, but will probably get some calls from my MOPs moms...especially the one that I referenced about throwing clothing away instead of repairing it....yikes...but since I didn't mention her by name, maybe she won't be too angry at me.

We will see how this plays out...right now though, my family is still asleep and I have a table covered with newspapers (hard copies for various family members). There is at least 1 more picture in the actual paper - of the second dress that I made for myself for Easter. Funny thing is that under 1 picture, they say I live in Stuarts Draft, and under another picture, they say I live in Waynesboro.....hopefully that will confuse anyone that thinks they can just drop by unannounced.....lol.

I know this will probably go over well with one of the local fabric stores (where I go for all of the QUALITY fabrics)....hmm..you think if they posted the article there, it would increase sales even more?? lol

Off to have a doughnut....special request by my daughter, and since the dog had me up at 545, I went ahead and made them....now they are all frosted and dipped (chocolate and some cinnamon-sugar) and NOBODY else is awake yet.....too much temptation to just let them sit there....lol

Nobody else awake yet -- that is my favorite time of day. Enjoy your donut and quiet time

Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame. As long as its not the obits or the police reports you can have fun with it.

The article came out nicely. Love the pics of the clothing you have sewn.

Maybe this will prompt your friend to learn how to sew a button on!

if it doesn't, at least it will bring in a little more income because they will end up bringing their clothing to me...lol. I currently have one friend who does this, but we do it in exchange for childcare....I do their mending and such, and they watch my children when I need them to. As in: policy council meeting on the 19th for a couple of hours, and hopefully (I need to call them about this one) on 7/2 when hubby has his surgery so that I can be at the hospital. That in trade for replacing 2 zippers and fixing a hem, AND hemming a pair of slacks that were worn to a wedding yesterday. If I charged them what I normally charge, that would work out to about $75 (I can do zippers and hems fairly quickly, but actually putting a NEW hem into suit slacks took a little longer because I had to keep checking to make sure it was even with the sample pair they brought me - I really don't want to know which side my friend's husband dresses). So....really, that is a day and a few hours worth of babysitting.....Surgery will probably be in the morning, and then there's the time in recovery, and meeting is supposed to go from 10-1130, but will probably go until 1.....i figure that it will end up even.
