I don't know if anyone has posted this site here.  Etiquette H*ll is a compilation of horrible things that have happened to people, but of course it's very entertaining.  There's a special wedding section, including the annual Burn the Bridesmaid's Dress contest, with pictures of contenders.  But, there is one very long post that has its own page.  It's called Titanic Wedding Disaster, and if you scroll down on the left, you'll see it.  It even has a picture of a sinking ship.  It's a very sewing-related story, and if you haven't already seen it, it's worth a look!

Liana, that is a story to end all wedding H*LL stories!  I originally had my wedding gown made by my friend's mother.  Two weeks before the wedding I picked it up for my formal portrait and it was ghastly - nothing like what I had asked for.  But at least I had two weeks....

My, my, my, my, my.

I've always had simple tastes and felt most weddings are overdone and a waste of $ that could go towards establishing the young couple with a house downpayment, etc.  I was happy to avoid all the fuss and expense and put those resources towards better use.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined this level of insanity. Either they totally misread the MIL's sanity or she sabotaged things, whether consciously or unconsciously. Quite an entertaining story, eloquently told.

Almost 40 years ago, in mid November my then fiance called from 500 mi. away and said that "due to military necessity" our June wedding plans wouldn't work. (Strong possibility of an absent groom!;) So we moved the whole thing up and got married on the day after Xmas. I had to buy an "in stock" dress, got the maid of honor to get what she would like to wear and let me know the color for the flowers. Engaged the church and away we went. We're old and grey now, and I have never regretted that we didn't have a "perfect wedding". We haven't had a perfect marriage either. :D All in all, I'd rather focus on the marriage than the wedding. The marriage is in good shape, but the wedding is just a pleasant memory.

This is an interesting story, and from all indicators the groom really lucked out, or maybe he's just a "good wife picker".

When I got married I wore a blue sweater and a pair of khaki shorts...

Thank God I didn't have to worry about Bridesmaid dresses !!

When I got married 19 years ago I wore a brown jumper and light colored blouse had yellow roses and no bridesmaids to worry about.  My DH word a tan slacks and a brown sweater at the chapel we were married at.   No regrets here.

I'm not really for big, "production" weddings either, but I didn't think it sounded like this was that type of thing.  Very much family oriented, but just happened to have a MIL-to-be with apparently a very loose screw.  I thought the whole thing was very incomprehensible since she apparently did lots of bridal sewing, etc.  I would watch out for her if I were the bride, as she's likely to do other odd things through the years.  Like StitchMD, I can't believe she didn't do this on purpose one way or the other.  Maybe she was temporarily insane, and that's why she doesn't discuss it.  Whatever the problem was, it would make it really hard for me to trust her again.

That "thing" in the picture looked like a shapeless, shiny sack. It was SO bad! Wow! Even if I was full of spite for someone, I wouldn't do this to them! Wow again!
