Youngest DD sent me this link because she knows that I love all things pertaining to Hello Kitty. If I were mumble mumble mumble years younger and mumble mumble pounds lighter, this would be fun.

Hello Kitty dress

Here's a link to the page with more dresses. They call them Jumpers. There are some cute ideas, even if they are a bit over the top.

Baby the stars shine bright

When you click on an individual dress, be sure to scroll all the way down to see pictures of the various colors and style details.

I wonder if people really wear that stuff? I'm going to print those pages out and ask the Japanese ladies at ESL class. ETA - I just emailed two of my students from last year, so maybe they'll write back.

Last year, the Japanese ladies told me that in Japan, collecting Fire King kitchenware is all the rage, and that they've probably cleaned us out over here in The States. They luuuuurve eBay. LOL

I understand that kids dress up in this type of clothing and hang out on the weekends in public places.

They'd have to be teenagers. Those dresses have a definite bust area.

I meant teenagers and early twenty somethings. These definitely are not clothes for children.

They sure do wear stuff like that...and that's tame. I lived in Japan for two years and my hairdresser was in Harajuku which is where all the cosplay kids hang out. I saw them all the time and some of them looked incredible like they should have been costume designers or make-up artists or something. That kind of dressing up is reserved exclusively for teenagers after school and on weekends...or adults at fantasy bars.

Thanks for your insight, BirdMcFarland. I've been watching this trend (from the internet) for a number of years and suspected that what you say is in fact the case. I love that this "dressing up" creates such attention to detail. I wonder what turn this talent for costume and style will take as the generation ages. Where do cosplayers go to retire?

I am not kidding - some of these kids looked like they'd come from a Hollywood movie set having been profesionally made up. It was really amazing. They hang out on a bridge by the train station and pose for tourists.
I really enjoyed seeing them and often thought that if I'd been born in Japan, I would have been right there with them!

What will these people look like in a few decades? Here's the answer, courtesy of Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

You're too funny Nancy2001!

That aside, I love all that artistry and courage to wear that stuff. I had my own fling in the 80s. Things are so much more tame now in the States.

BTW: what is cosplay?
