Can't do anything but straight stitch! (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

AACK! I used the free motion settings in Set 4 of my QDII menus and that project is done. Unfortunately, I mistakenly selected foot Q on the screen which sets the stitch width to 0. Now even though I have selected R foot, I cannot get my machine to reset to default settings. I have selected stitches on my A1 card but everything shows up on screen and in practice as a straight stitch. How, pray tell, can I wrest control of my machine from the demon that resides within?!

Did you try turning the machine off...then on again? A little reset never hurts here.
If you have tried that, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If you set the stitch width to 4.0 or 5.0 on screen 1 does that help anything?
Good luck!

I have tried turning the machine off and then back on. When I try to reset the stitch width, a message pops up about the stitch width being too wide. Thanks for your input, tho'.

Is your machine still set up for the Q foot?

I have pressed the icon for the R foot which should reset the settings. According to the screen, I am not set up for the Q foot.

Do you have a dealer you can call?
Are your feed dogs up and ready? Pull the A1 card out and put it back in... I'm trying to remember if there is a screen where you can set all back to default.
Still crossing my fingers for you!

It is a long time since I used a QDII, but my memory says that somewhere in the various settings screens there is a setting that locks the machine on straight stitch. I remember multiple screens that you have to scroll through. I am wondering if you need to deselect this setting, not just make the foot setting change.

Could have have programed the machine to certain stitch settings and need to clear the machine? Does your machine have a clear button as my Viking does to clear the programs when in "prog" mode?

I'll check my machine and manual to see if a clear button will take card of my problem. I also called my dealer. Although she couldn't answer my Q off the top of her head, she said she'd look up my problem in the service manuals at the store. Hopefully, I'll hear from her in the morning. Meanwhile, my backup machine continues to purr.

Update: I called the dealer and she said she'd check the repair manuals and call me back. I also e-mailed the Husqvarna Viking website help line and they responded saying contact my dealer. Well, no call back from the dealer. Okay, here's the amazing part---Wednesday morning when I turned on my machine, it worked fine!! I didn't do a thing! I guess whatever evil spirit resided within decided to vacate the machine. I guess I'll just be thankful and leave it at that.
Thanks for your help, folks.
